Re: Rotor recommendation for stock calipers

Yeah my stage 6 needs some new brakes too...

But really, I have heard that you should just pick up the cheapest rotors you can find on ebay. They are all basically the same thing. You can get a set of 4 for a little over 200 shipped. SCORE. I gotta do my brakes this summer too and thats what I plan on doing.

Ah, I am relatively new to the S4, after reviewing the "stages" I see that my car was built up to a stage 3.

So I understand why you gentlemen pounced on me.......

I bought all four cross drilled and slotted rotors on ebay. They've worked fine (knock on wood) for awhile.

I would think drilled and slotted is best. The cooler the brakes, the better, and with both cuts working in your favor I'd expect that to be the coolest.

Re: Rotor recommendation for stock calipers

i wouldn't recommend ebay rotors... mostly because the rotors are probably from china... and chinese standards for metal are crap and i've seen some f-ed up ebay rotors warped to shit after road racing on other vehicles.

supposedly, cross-drilled rotors have a tendancy to crack, but i've only seen that once on my buddies supra... but he was doing this crazy track out here... he basically slammed it to 120 and then back down to 50 or below for turns over and over again. it was actually pretty interesting to see the rotor the way it was... but i'm an engineer and like to see things fail... mostly for knowledge and it looks cool...

but if you look at most BBK setups, i think a lot of them have slotted and drilled rotors. so, that should tell you something. but it is a different setup and the contact surface area is different.

but also, consider the fact that I live in houston and the ambient temperature is pretty f-ing high here, so more issues can occur with all aspects of a car.

personally, i have hand-slotted zimmerman rotors that i bought from Paul Weston at Weston Motorsports. they cool down pretty good and they keep the brake dust from building up on the pads and rotors. they look pretty nice and feel pretty good, too.

Re: Rotor recommendation for stock calipers

I would have chosen the Stoptech rotor kit for the stock calipers but I'm really interested in how people liked their ECS rotors. To me, the weight savings are worth it, and coupled with upgraded pads and the slotted rotor option, it should be plenty for what I have planned for my S4 for the time being (stage 2).

However, I have read negative reviews on the ECS kits. I know the satisfaction rate is mostly 50//50 so if people can chime in on this, I'd greatly appreciate it. I'd probably buy the ECS front and rears and save a good bunch on unsprung weight ONLY if the rotors hold up well with road racing.

Re: Rotor recommendation for stock calipers

For plain rotors, I will like to try out the Brembos from TireRack

For slotted rotors, I think I will probably go with StopTech Stage II again.
