    Bah this sucks..

So long story short I'm a new Audi owner coming from having two Subaru's a familt member is selling me his car for cheap ('00 A4 V6 OEM xenons and so on) Anyways he says he will repair a few things first.. everything is ready but the damn catalytic converter :( ffs I could of ordered it from the internet and let the shop install it :( going on two weeks and waiting to take ownership.

I do have a question I know the catalytic converter failing is pretty normal on higher milage A4's (I have 134K) but how does it fail with a hole near a joint?

And yes before anyways asks U I know about the tming belt he said it was replaced but I have to ask if he has the paperwork to that he has only put about 30K on the car, so I'm guessing if it was not replaced recent it would need to be changed again really soon.

The car has the factory Bose system.. from what I understand taking out the factory speakers and the factory radio and putting in a aftermarket HU and speakers I'd still need to pull the wires for where the factory speakers were and rewire them? It seems like a harness is not going to do anything.

    Re: Bah this sucks..

Anyone know what size bulbs the car uses? yes I checked the bulb guide and the numbers they give don't help when looking for them at SuperLeds

The only bulbs I know of was the dome lights and the door courtesy lights. I think the B5 has lights in the rear for the passengers as well? All I know or it seems like the car has a crap load of festoon bulbs.

    Who said the radio failed?

I'm asking about replacing the factory radio..

I need to rip out the wires to all the speakers just to change the front and rear speakers when getting a aftermarket head unit with a wiring harness?

    Re: Bah this sucks..

You dont need to change the speakers whenn adding an after maket stereo and you just get a wiring harness like you would do in any car.

So no ripping wires just install the new stereo and rock you music.

Bose speaker system though has an amp, i think its under the read deck? Thats what i would assume would pose any kind of issue.

How would it pose an issue? I would not be using the bose speaker anyways thats where I get confused. It uses some kind of special connection or something?

    Re: Bah this sucks..

the problem is that with the bose setup each speaker is individually amp'd so if you want to change the deck thats fine, but to change the speakers you have to pull all that stuff out.

that's like a statement and a question in one sentence. I'm not trying to be grammar police but I can't understand what the hell you're saying/asking

No, you can do an After market HU. You just need a Harness, also an antenna booster. Its pretty easy.

I would need mounting brackets for the front door speakers right?

And for the cat I meant the gasket seal

depends on what speakers you get, 5.25" is the bose size. if they are that size they will drop right in. if they arent then you need an adapter/spacer

interesting crutchfield is saying it would have to be a modified fit and what about door thickness I guess I would need to get shallow door speakers?
