BIG DECISION TO MAKE...Need advice/opinions/etc..

So the kid who bought my A4 wants to sell the car back to me. If you all remember, he had a problem with the place he took the car to get inspected (after he bought it from me). They stole the car over night, took it out for a joyride, grenaded 3rd and he ended up buying another trans from URs4, Hap is his name I think.

Anywho, he seems to think that this second trans has blown again. he says he was coasting into a lot at Univ. of Md when he thought he felt the trans "fall out of the car". Long story short, he wants to sell the car and be done with it and I can't say I blame him.

In my defense, I never had a single issue w/ the trans when I owned the car and I wasn't shy about driving it hard either but I digress, that's not what this is about.

So...I sold the car for $6k which, for a full supporting mod stg3 car, is a dman good deal IMHO. All maintenance was done on it including TB. Mileage was a bit high at 150k but it was solid.

I'm wondering how much I should offer. Now that I have a Daily driver, I could take my time and do this car right. All these BAT/engine build/Stasis DIY diff/etc. threads are making me insanely jealous!!!

FWIW, he said he wanted $3500 for the car as is...just wondering what you all think of that.

The kid probably doesn't know how to drive. I think that is the problem. If I were you I would offer him $3000, put $500-$700 for a new trans. I mean 3000 even for a track car would be a great deal

definitely buy it back! It could be a fun toy now that you have a DD. You can take your time and build it up right. To go up to a BAT you don't have to spend much.

I just don't know guys...Of course I want it back but I don't think I honestly have the $$$ to do what I want with it. I'm going to have to talk to the wifey about it. She's usually pretty understanding about this addiction...er hobby.

(I would love to have you back but im still on the fence about selling my car.)
You can buy it back and not work on it until the funds are there. (I wish i had funds for a new car and have this car on the side.)

I would buy that for $3500 in a heartbeat if everything else checked out OK, aside from the trans issue.

Then, I'd sell my AWM car and flip the money into mods, or get an Avant as a DD.

Bring 3k cash, ask him how much he wanted for it casually, and offer him 3k cash.

When doing the trani, consider a 2.8 or a 6 speed.

I bought mine for 6k w/ 135k miles, now have 6k more into it and im at 145k miles. (I have APRstage 3...)
