I need new tires... and some help

Ok so, I know it is kinda a lame mod, but I need new tires for my 2002 a4 1.8t with sport wheels. 17 inchers. My car is not lowered and no suspension mods. I am looking to replace my kumho 711's that are on the car now. They came with the car and are 225/45 17 , i know oem's are 235/45 17. I like the tires that are on there now, and would buy them again but tirerack says they are discontinued. What tires should i get? I would like to get 20,000 miles outta them. I am a noob so not sure what ppl with a4's get. also I drive spirited but not crazy, in summer mainly but some light snow in the winter.
I am in college so i would like to keep the tires under 600 bucks. Also is tirerack my best bet? thanks for any help.

Continental ContiExtremeContact $99 each at TireRack in 235/45/17

They are all-season high performance tires. Pretty much handle just like my ContiSport2 summer tires did, but are much better in the colder temps and light snow. Have about 8k miles on mine...aren't 1/2 worn yet. 20k should be attainable.

I ordered 2 tires on Monday. They have a store local to me and they are honoring the ebay price and discounting mount/balance since I am buying through the store. They seem pretty stand up so far and hopefully everything will go smooth once the tires arrive...

X2 on these tires, im running a second set of them now!!! for the price you wont regret them and they are directional tires and handle well in the summer and i driven on snow with them multiple times and they were fine. My first set was for stock 17's and now i have them on my 19's and i absolutely love them.

Wow. thanks for the tips. I was looking at he bfgoodrich g-force t/a kdw. Anyone have these or any experience? I am gonna leave my wheels on is the winter, can i get away with summer tires or should i suck it up and buy winter ones to (i really don't have the funds.)

A necessity, yes but I think of it as a mod bc it changes the way the car drives. I have had good tires and shitty ones and the difference is huge. I wish i could get the 711's bc I like the way they feel. Anybody have 711's and switch to a similiar tire? thanks for the info about the toyo my buddy had problems with his too.

no you should not buy summer tires and run them in the winter. thats the worst idea ever. i love reading reviews on tirerack about summer tires where people are like "these tires are terrible in the snow, i give them a 3." im like "thats because theyre SUMMER tires moron." lol

lol, i ran summer tires this past winter...it sucked..quattro doesnt do shit for you with them.

Love my Goodyear Eagle F1 All Seasons on my 17" Sport Wheels...huuuuuuge difference from the crappy Kumho ASX's that were on there before...

400 AA A (treadwear traction temp), which is really good. Only a few tires have a better, 420, treadwear rating.

Khumo ASX's are similarly priced but are much worse (had them on another car). Goodyear F1 All-Seasons are comparable...but cost $50 more each.

Yea I was thinking about summer tires in the winter, I know they suck and it would make me a moron, but wasn't sure if all-wheel drive made a difference in that respect. The eagle f-1 all-seasons might not be bad, if I were to get winter wheels any suggestions. I don't need crazy winter blizzard tires, but maybe a reasonable wheel and tire combo. maybe i will just get all-seasons for the winter.

I got the sport stock sized tires and have driven with them now for about 15k or more. Not even 1k miles ago I went in for my 70k service and the dealer graded all 4 of their tread green. They handle great in dry and wet conditions and do quite well in the snow. No complaints.

Too bad to hear about bad results with the Toyo's as that is what I was planning on using next. I have them on my Miata and they are fantastic. 15k miles so far and look like they will go 30k easy. Great ride, quiet and great handling. Maybe the Audi is just too heavy for them.

It's likely my estimate of being able to get 20k out of them was low. I've only had them for 8k and they still have a ton of tread left. Although I have not measured the tread depth so I can't say they are X% worn. I put the contiExtreme all seasons on as my USP wheels for winter as I don't need dedicated snow tires like Blizzaks nor do I want to run 16s or 17s. The contiExtremes are great all around tires. Inexpensive, smooth, quiet, and perform just like the ContiSport 2 summer tires I use to have. I do mostly local driving and don't put a ton of miles on the car. I do some spirited driving as well. Not saying i'd autoX with these tires (or the Audi) but for everything on the street...they are a great tire with plenty of performance year round.

The KDWs are ok too. I've had them previously on my 19s. The downside with them is that as they wear down, they get very loud.... obnoxiously loud. I flipped to the Exclaims and have been really pleased.

I think will probably go the all-season route with the conti-extreme or the f1. Thanks for the input guys. I still have a few months to decide. maybe i can strech my tires to winter then look at summer wheels and tires in the spring!

Same here except I had the T1R's with over 30k and they still had plenty of thread left. Smooth, but when being pushed they were a little mushy and started to squeal.

I have to get new tires for a staggered setup and it's either the Falken 452's or the T1R's.
