Collapsing tip and throttle body hose problems

I have an OE tip and TB Hose and are having problems with both. I have a stock ecu with a mbc set at 12-13 psi spike and holds at about 10psi and thats apprently too much for them.

First the TIP, its very oval shaped instead of round and seems to be hindering performance. Is this a common problem? Cheap fix??

Second is the TB hose, which seems more serious. Before the boost controller: the end that attaches to the throttle body would slightly slip off when i would drive on the freeway. But now, after the slight increase in boost it slips off twice as much just driving to school or wherever. Its not hard to fix, just loosen the clamp push it back on then tighten it back down its just annoying, what happens if it pops off while im driving?? Besides that its very small and probably hindering performance as well. Is there a cheap fix for this?? Has anyone ever made there own? Doesnt look too hard, i need some ideas.

Step 1: Get rid of MBC and buy a chip.
Step 2: Get rid of OEM TIP and TB hoses and buy aftermarket ones.

there is no "cheap" fix on an audi unfortunately... Forge TIP $150, Neuspeed $270, JJ or Mchammered $300+

that is exactly what i told him on audiforums... get a chip... cincytt disagreed ...you gotta start somewhere but bang for the buck, any stage II, FX or 1+ flash is tough to beat!
get one and you will be laughing at 12 lbs boost! mine spikes 23 but my OEM TIP only collapses under high boost on the interstate

Re: Collapsing tip and throttle body hose problems

if the car can accommodate the fueling and other parameters (sp) whats the harm in ~4+ lbs boost increase???

Of course "stage 1+" is optimum, but basically anything over $50 is WAY TOO MUCH. Being in college, a private one at that, is not cheap. If anyone has a hookup on a chip, tip, throttle body hose, etc. let me know.

That's what I was thinking. I replaced my TIP with a Forge and love it.

Re: Collapsing tip and throttle body hose problems

BTW im not stupid, i dont plan on upping the boost to 25psi. My first and second gears were very jerky and the boost was not coming on steady and the mbc actually solved this. If i do run into a lean code or the like stock pressure is simply a turn away.

Re: Collapsing tip and throttle body hose problems

As much as it isn't documented (ie: chip manufacturers don't require it) you'll most likely collapse your OE TIP with an ECU flash. We did on my car. It was collapsing around 5,000rpm.

A 100% silicon aftermarket TIP is recommended.

Re: Collapsing tip and throttle body hose problems

the ECU is smarter than your MBC, the ECU will close your throttle body and make it feel like your car is collapsing a Boost line. there is no easy fix, .... well 1 but i dont hink it would work well for and it also defeats a safety paramiter for your car.

it is a map clamp, but im not gonna say to much more because if you can't afford a $50 fix you really need to not look at your Audi as a performance/Tuner car, most items on this car are more than that just to begin, Cheap fixes cost more in repairs than quality parts do the first time.

I had 2 DSMs before my first A4, night and day difference for tunabilty. Sorry i did not make the rules but this a car that you have to pay to play. and a Chip is 500 if you want 1+ then another $200 for injectors, and so on that is for a mild increase, if you want the car to feel fast a K04 is about $1000 on top of that $700 and then a FMIC is $300 for an EBAY core or $800 for DSMICs, Exhaust is about $600 for magnaflow plus a test pipe ETC..........

I think you get my point, but here is the bad stuff Timing Belt kit $200+ required at every 60k miles to prevent a engine rebuild that will cost about $3000. And then the clutch.

Im not trying to be a dick but i'm say that these are not budget building cars. they require a a bit of quality maintence plus a lot of money for Mods, do you self a favor and to Cosmetic Changes, you will be happier, you will make the car yours and by doing that you have time to mod it once you graduate and have the stock engine still, because you didnt use an eBay turbo kit. and then put a hole in your block from your weak Factory Connecting Rod.

Re: Collapsing tip and throttle body hose problems

Also to fix your hose to your throttle body, clean your throttle body lip with a mild soap i like spray orange cleaner, then clean the inside of your hose with the same rag. You have oil built up on your tube and it causes it to slip off under boost. if that does not work repeat above use a very little bit of RTV on you finger and smooth just enough to barely coat the outside of the lip then clamp down.
