not normal. It should automatically stay in second till the car comes to a stop or if you use tip mode you can make it go into first. The car should not jerk

    Re: Transmission

I am also having the same problem. I took it into the dealer and test drove it with one of their techinicians who claims that it is part of the way that the engine works. It happens to me whether or not i am in Tip or Automatic.

    Re: Transmission

Tiptronic ? Sounds like this same issue I posted here:

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=176333

My problem dissappeared after a few weeks. Hasn't done it since for months...

I'm led to believe that the ECU learns driving style and adapts - I dunno - weird how it suddenly appeared and went away again.

Recently had a dealer service, software update performed but none of those dumbskulls could tell me what the software update addressed....

    Re: Transmission

Did you try a manuel 6 speed transmission on a A4 2.0T? I'm thinking of buying a A4 2.0T cabriolet but it only comme whit the tip trans (I want the quattro). My last 15 cars was all manual. Is it really fun???

    Re: Transmission

The problem has to do with transmission software and the Clutch converter lock up. The way newer transmissions are designed is that the torque converter clutch stays locked up at low speeds and only unlocks to switch gears or during heavy throttle. The reason for this is fuel economy because when the converter is locked there is no slippage aka the same way a manual transmission works. What you are feeling is when the car downshifts and the torque converter clutch engages and disengages. The problem is with this transmission programming, the rev matching is not as good as it could be so you are going to feel it more.

My 2006 BMW x5 with the similar ZF transmission has the same issue. It has gone away with more miles because the clutch becomes softer due to wear.

I experienced this on my B7 wagon and thought it was a bit odd. One of the reasons i went to a 6-speed manual - much better. Having manual transmission transforms the car IMO. I have heard the new paddle shift auto transmission is much better than the Tip tho.

We had an old Bravada that had a leaking seal and it would not move the car, turns out the transmission seized.

    Re: Transmission

on saturday i took my car to penske and they let me test drive a quattro to see if it was normal and the service consultant said its not because the other quattro doesnt do and later that day when i drove home my tranny started tugging hadr on fourth gear and then the PRNDS suddenly was highlighted in Red so i pulled over and when i tried taking off it didnt move. Then i turned it off and then back on again and then my acceleration was slow like really slow. Then i tried going in reverse and it didnt move at all it felt like if i had it in neutral
