    Milltek Exhaust and Factory Warranty?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was wondering if the Milltek non-res cat back exhaust voids the factory warranty of the car? I did notice that one of the places listed on the Milltek site to purchase their products in GA is a dealership so I would not think they would sell products that would void the warranty.

Also is non-res the way to go if I do not plan on doing anything else right now such as down pipes or ecu. Will the car have to be tuned at all with the addition of the exhaust?

they can void your warranty only if they can prove it the problem is caused by the mod you have.

It really depends on your preference. I personally would go for non-res b/c I like it loud, and no, you don't need to get it tuned.

Other than sound is there a huge advantage with just putting in a cat-back system? Most of the stuff I have read about the exhaust people also have the down pipes and an ECU tune. Will I loose gas mileage or anything with it?

Worry about sound with a CB, not performance gains.

No voiding of warranty at all. No tuning necessary. Are you looking to buy Milltek for an RS4 or S4?

Re: Milltek Exhaust and Factory Warranty?

I was wondering if the Milltek non-res cat back exhaust voids the factory warranty of the car?

No, it does not. Downpipes can since they affect input to the oxygen sensors, but the cat-back does nothing to affect engine inputs.

I did notice that one of the places listed on the Milltek site to purchase their products in GA is a dealership so I would not think they would sell products that would void the warranty.

While warranty is not affected in this case, don't bet on your statement in general. Dealerships can sell products that will void your warranty. They just need to inform you of this ahead of time. Some dealers will even offer ECU upgrades.

Also is non-res the way to go if I do not plan on doing anything else right now such as down pipes or ecu.

Non-res will be louder. Also, after MANY years of modding cars, I have never heard a non-resonated exhaust that doesn't have an annoying drone at lower rpms. Depending on the system, this can be mild with a narrow rpm range to brain shaking obnoxious bass frequencies that span over 1000 rpms. But, it will scream and put a shit eating grin on your face under hard acceleration. Most reviews of Milltek's non-res, however, have found it to be too loud to live with on a daily basis. And here's a tid bit of info....even Milltek thinks the non-res is too loud for this type of vehicle, but the market is there, it's cheap to produce, so why not make the sale.

Will the car have to be tuned at all with the addition of the exhaust?

No, although optimal power gains will be with downpipes, cat-back and a custom tune done with that specific hardware.

if you plan on doing the cat back only, get the non-res. i dont know this from personal experience, per se, but everyone on the boards who seems to get resonated thinks it sounds just like the stock system. so, to spend over a grand for no significant change might be pointless...just my .02

sorry i didnt answer your warranty question...i don't know as much as others on that one...

why does everyone say that CB's do nothing in terms of performance and that only DP's produce any noticeable gains, when all the exhaust manufacturers claim that the CB produces a 12-16hp gain, while they only claim around 9hp for DP's?

Re: Milltek Exhaust and Factory Warranty?

My reservation is that the car would sound like a Ford Mustang or something like that with the non-res version. I dont have any reference on low rpms or down shifting because all the videos and sound clips are of full acceleration. I mean I hate to have a nice car that sounds like crap in slow cruising speeds. Is there an advantage of one over the other other than sound? Is one more suitable for stock downpipes and a non-programed ecu?

Re: Milltek Exhaust and Factory Warranty?

The res version sounds very close to stock espcially in the upper rpm range when the engine noise seems to drown out the exhaust. The non res is the way to go. It's still not as loud as a resonated FI catback. This assumes no downpipes will be used.

And to answer your question on the warranty, a dealership can do it for any reason they please. It is then up to you to take them to court over the denial and that will cost you very likely more than any single repair could ever cost. Bottom line is if you have a catastrophic failure, put the car completely back to stock then have it towed to a new dealership.
