    Control arms anyone a expert?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Ok heres my problem.

When I go over bumps or a bumpy road I here a bunch of squeeks.. Sometimes when I'm at slow speeds I can here the suspension or whatever.
Once I press on the right side of my car I here the same noise. When I even turn my steering wheel it makes a squeeking grinding sound. Is it my control arms? If so anyone an expert of fixing it for cheap or any shops around North Seattle that can do it for dirt? I can get the parts for cheap just not the labor.

    Thanks

9 times out of 10 it is the control arms. You've got a '99 and if they are original they very well maybe bad.

ECS tuning had a full control arm kit for around $600 a few years ago when I did mine.

    Expert for cheap, reasonable maybe.

I know the guys at Matrix in Oregon are reasonable for labor rates and it's worth the drive. Ask for Jer at Matrix. The dealership will rip you off!

If you would consider the noise more of a creak then it might not be the upper control arms. Those are usually more of a clunk when you hit bumps or pulling into a driveway. However, it very well could be control arms. The lowers tend to creak more than the uppers. And a lot of times sway bar links can creak really bad.

Long story short. Could be a number of things but on that car, you can usually count on control arms.

Push down on the fender that you think may have bad CA. If it squeaks the arm is bad. "If there is play throw it away".

Re: Control arms anyone a expert?

i had what sounds like the exact same problem....it was the right side of my car, and it would squeek something fierce over bumps, and when the car was stopped i would press down on the right fender and could hear it

had my control arms on the right side replaced and it didnt fix the problem...i went on a track day up at bremerton and it stopped squeeking after that

however, the warm weather must have brought it back, because the day before yesterday i could hear it again, although not as bad as before

Sounds to me like you have control arms and tie rod ends that are faulty (boots torn, joints loose). They can both creak, squeak, or clunk but the control arms usually creak/clunk and the tie rod ends usually squeak.

You'll need to jack the car up and take the 2 upper control arms per side, grab them, see if you can move them at all. Do the same with the tie rod end on that side. Also, look for torn boots on these items.

LMK if you have any questions.

    Hey Nate,

Just a reminder---just your right front lower leading control arm was replaced. So, the right front lower trailing control arm could be noisy now. Let us know if you'd like to bring it in for us to look at it.

It was the upper front control arm as the other side is getting near too. Thanks man. I'm going to order the whole kit today.

    Sweet sweet!!

Be careful with the 8pc kit including TRE's. We used one of those in the past and when the car's lower leading control arm failed down the road, a standard lower leading replacement arm wouldn't fit (it was as if the arms in the kit were unique in their own way. It was definitely strange and a pain to get the correct arm finally ordered).

If you ever need any CA's or TRE's(we only use the heavy duty units), we always have them in stock! No sales tax either.
