    New Clutch...Engagement Chatter Normal?

So my new clutch is in...I got the upgraded SB HD. I believe it has the same pressure plate as an OFE SS, or something along those lines. Basically it will hold a lot more power than a normal HD.

I've only put like 20 miles on it so far, but going into first gear is really rough...the car will chatter, or bounce a lot until it gets into gear. To put it in perspective stay in fourth gear and come to a stop, that very rough feeling before the stall is what I'm experiencing. Once in a while it'll do this while going into second, but mainly it's when going from a stop into first gear.

Is this normal, until the clutch breaks in? If so on average how many miles until it is broken in?

great, thanks man! needed to be sure about that. if it wasn't normal i didn't want to wait 500 miles to make a complaint.

    Re: New Clutch...Engagement Chatter Normal?

yeah, i had SB resurface my flywheel. i was in a pickle though, because the work was done at my local Audi dealer and their recommendation was don't resurface. On the other hand SB doesn't provide a warranty on the clutch with a resurface job. so i went with the resurface and Audi won't give me any kind of guarantee on the work because i went against their recommendation. they do guarantee the install was done correctly though. if anything were to go wrong (knock on wood) i'm going to be hard pressed to get anything out of them....

    Re: New Clutch...Engagement Chatter Normal?

Yeah, I've got about 350 mi. on mine and the bouncing has been gradually decreasing. At first the engagement point was really low and abrupt, but for some reason now it engages closer to stock height, but the grab is still very off/on, which I figure is just how it is. Give it a few hundred higher RPMs going into first and it'll be smoother.

Funny thing is my stock clutch pretty much did the same thing, just not as violent, up until it died.

As Chris said, it will go away. I have over 2k on my OFE SS and there are no issues.
