So I just had my 034 mounts installed along with 034 tranny mount, all street density and WOW are there more vibrations. Anyone who has these, can you tell me if the vibrations will gradually decrease(loosen up) with wear or will they stay as is? I'm also located in Minnesota so the 38 degree weather isn't helping I know but with wear and warmer weather, will the vibrations decrease?

I am willing to bet that the shop that did the install did NOT allow the car to idle while all the mounts where still loose, so they could "seat" themselves into place.

Another reason why one should always DIY!!!

    Re: 034 Motormounts

No they did. The guy that I had do it had his done the same way. I also told them to do it that way because of the snub mount and aligning it before they secure the mounts down. I don't know how long they ran the car or if they revved the engine. Is there anything else that I can do, or will it settle in on its own and will the vibrations decrease? I would've done it myself but I don't have anything to do that kind of work. I wish I did.

    Re: 034 Motormounts

Maybe only the motor and tranny mounts were loose and not the snub mount? If you do a search on rxrep's post of his review on the mounts, he was not experiencing any vibrations whatsoever. I'm thinking that there must have been something that wasn't loosened to allow everything to seat properly.

    Re: 034 Motormounts

I took a look at his review but I want to know what I can do, if anything, to fix this. I'm limited in what to work with. The vibrations are pretty bad, especially when excelerating. I had new exhaust put in too so I don't know if that has anything to do with it, highly doubt it though. The car doesn't really vibrate any differently, it's just inside the cabin that you can hear the vibrations.

    Re: 034 Motormounts

So what then did they do or not do that made it vibrate more? Did they tell me they ran the car but did while everthing was tightened? I've heard both stories about these. Some have more vibrations but nothing terrible, others have nothing. WTF? Can this problem be fixed but loosening what needs to be loosened, idle the car and then tightened everything up, or is it too late for that?

this might sound crazy, but have you tried going to a.. store?

anyway, maybe you were sent track density mounts by mistake?

I think you may be mistaking the sound with the new exhaust.

You can always go back and loosen everything up, run the engine, and tighten it back up.

No there are autopart stores nearby, but nothing special. I can do the work that's not the problem. I have been busy with work due to tax time so I've been working 14 hours days so I was tired of these lying around and just took it to the shop have installed. What tools do I need in order to get this fixed. Also, how can I tell if they are track or street density? I know I ordered street so hopefully they didn't give me track.

I will look tonight and see if it is or not. It should just be sitting in there straight and a little portion protruding right? I know that the mounts sit higher than the oem ones or was that a misconception brought up in one of the previous threads? I just want make sure becuase if it is sitting higher, won't the snub mount be sitting in there differently?

    Re: 034 Motormounts

    1. Loosen EVERYTHING, including snub, idle engine without reving, shut off engine, then tighten everything down.
    2. Search for MIKTIP's posts on cutting down tranny mount. It appears as though some claimed the tranny mount raised the engine up, but on mine it did not.

Mine is worry free, no more vibration than when stock except maybe a little in the shift knob, but not enough to even say it's worse. It is awesome and the slop of the stock stuff is gone.
Finally, I'd question the install period. The tranny mount is not the simplest of installs to get lined up correctly. Even if everything is loosened and then tightened up (including snub), if the tranny mount was not aligned perfectly on the install, it won't matter.

I do trust his input and thats why when I went in to have it done, I told them exactly what Lee mentioned in his previous posts and how I wanted them installed. Did they listen, I don't know. I'm hearing more vibrations and when i rev the car, it vibrates more and I mean any thing loose will rattle. Some of the vibrations I hear are from exhaust. I don't think I would feel any vibrations from the exhaust unless something was wrong. Hearing vibrations from the exhaust is normal but exhaust shouldn't make my car vibrate more. On a side note too, after having these installed, it seems like I can hear everything in my engine compartment. Any experience this at all? Really kinda confused. What I really want to do is put back the OEM mounts and hear and feel what the exhaust does and then put the mounts back in and see what happens.

Its time to DIY....I seriously will NEVER take my car (and future cars) to a shop. I seriously cannot think of something I cannot do myself....beside stuff like tire mounting and balancing and alignment...I am holding off on doing an alignment....because there is always something that they will do wrong/break....

Yea I want to take care of it myself but this would be the biggest attempt for me alone. Is there any place I can go to find audi owners in my area that could help me with this? As far as exhaust goes, I should only hear the vibrations from the exhaust if everything was done correctly. The exhaust shouldn't have an effect on feeling the vibrations, right?

    Re: 034 Motormounts

Lastly, what are all the tools that I will need in order to get this problem taken car of. If someone can provide a list, that would be helpful so that I can go around to the stores and get whatever I don't have. I have ramps to get the car off the ground. Will that be enough clearance to work with?

    Re: 034 Motormounts

    good topics here guys.

    1. the 034 tranny mount, when installed properly, does NOT use the large washer from the stock mount. That washer is included, along with a dust boot in the mount portion of the 034. That was the cause of a couple vocal problems here.

    2. what kind of snub are you using? I talked to the guys at 034 and apparently their snub is 1mm smaller in radius, so at idle, when there's no torquing action, it doesn't cause vibrations. I was specifically warned by them when ordering my engine and tranny mounts to use ALL of their mounts, because they're built and tested together.

as far as the vibrations... they increase greatly compared to stock, and when it's cold (ie, in Montana@Christmas). But I've either gotten more used to it, or things have been breaking in too.

    Re: 034 Motormounts

    OP,

I would start off by buying one of those 250 or 300 piece Craftsman tool sets from Sears. I THINK I bought a 244 piece set, and it was MORE than enough...BUT this is an Audi and ofcourse, there are ALOT of special tools you must buy as well.

Torx bits, and Allen/Hex bits are a must! Also, evrything is metric on this car (and newer cars as well).

    Re: 034 Motormounts

I don't know if i've stated this or not. At idle, the car feels like stock, no vibrations, nothing. When I hit the gas, thats when everything shakes and vibrates. The lower RPM's are the worst. I thought at idle I would feel more vibrations but it feels exactly the same before the car went in. Kinda confused, any ideas? Also, I have the apr snub mount.

Did you get street or track density?

I have the motor and tranny street mounts, and no issues whatsoever. When I did have the track density mounts the car had some vibration going accelerating and then none after that.

Also, the downpipe could be hitting the frame

    Re: 034 Motormounts

Really sorry to hear, man. It sucks when a fellow AZ'r is having problems. I can assure you that the stuff works, though.
Without seeing video or actually being in the car, I can't determine anything for you. Your "tons of vibration" may be normal for me, I don't know.
Mine does not vibrate. But it is a LOT louder. It's almost like the engine noise goes through the whole frame of the car now. But I like that. Car sounds bad ass from inside.
I really don't know what to tell you other than don't ever let a shop that doesn't do tons of B6's work on your car. They work by trial and error just as much as you would doing DIY. And they don't generally care about your car like it was their own.
Around here, B6's just aren't modded much, and as such... no shop touches my car unless it's the rare thing I haven't got tools for. And then, it's a shop that lets me stand there and micro-manage. Because they know I know more about this car than they do.

    Re: 034 Motormounts

The car is definitely a lot louder. I know that some of that is due to the exhaust but I didn't think I would hear everything from the engine compartment as well. It seems that after I had this done, I hear every little noise from the car. It doesn't ride as quiet as stock, that's for sure but that doesn't bother me. It's only when I accelerate or rev the engine, it torques something and that makes the car vibrate. While driving I hear the exhaust but if I go to hit the gas, everything shakes, like its straining. Maybe something is hitting the frame, or maybe it's that the mounts aren't seated properly, or maybe something totally unrelated. IDK? I will try and get a video if I can, not sure how to and maybe you guys can help diagnose my problems. I do trust the shop though. They perform a lot of stasis mods and there is a guy that deals specifically with b6's regarding upgrades. If you do a search you will see they are a credited dealership. (maplewood audi) Thanks lee and if you have any suggestion on how to get a video up, let me know.

    Re: 034 Motormounts

I'm in Prior Lake, MN. I have 034 Street Density mounts and APR snub and I get some vibration below 40 degrees. It pretty much goes away after that. PM me and I might be able to help you out. I installed all my stuff myself.
