    Stubborn Leather Stain

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
On the edge of my tan leather seat, I have some blue discoloration (from I'm assuming my jeans rubbing against the leather). I have tried using some Lexol, but it didn't help very much. Any suggestions on a product or method by which to get the stain out?

    Re: Stubborn Leather Stain

The reason why the blue stain didn't come out is because Lexol is formulated to clean and condition unfinished leather (leather without a clear coat finish on the surface). Practicaly all leather today has a clear coat finish (just like your paintwork). So, a soap based cleaner like Lexol (or similar product) won't do the trick.

You need a product formulated to clean the clear finish. These have usually been referred to as 'one step' products. An example would be our einszett Leather Care "Lederpflege" cleaner/conditioner. It should take the stain out without issue. It cleans all sorts of grime build up and I've easily removed pen ink from leather with it.

Here's more info on einszett Leather Care, an article about leather and how to treat it and you can purchase it from this forum's sponsor "Detailers Domain" as well as other retailers.

    Hope this helps!

Mike, thanks for the advice. I have just about all of your other products and think that they're amazing. I'll definitely be picking this up.

Thank you! If you have the chance, please update us on the result.

And don't discount Lexol completely. There's not a lot of unfinished leather left out there in the market - not just talking about auto leather but shoes, belts, wallets, handbags, jackets, luggage, etc. But every now and then you will come across something with unfinished leather. So definitely keep the Lexol handy because Leather Care is not made for the unfinished products. For example, I have a pair of loafers that are unfinished so I keep a bottle of Lexol cleaner and conditioner handy just for them.

    Thank you,

    Re: Stubborn Leather Stain

I am probably going to buy this for my leather b/c I have the platinum so it shows every little discoloration on it but I was wondering if this will help w/ creasing as well. I have a big crease in my drivers seat that looks horrible and my car is only about 2.5 yrs old.

    thanks

    Re: Stubborn Leather Stain

When you say crease, do you mean a crack in the leather? If so, Leather Care will remove any grime so those cracks are not as apparent. In the meantime, make sure the leather stays conditioned so you don't get anymore cracking. This happens when the finish dries out - the same way the clear coat (paint) will dry and oxidize if not polished and waxes.
