Buy a house in the Bay area??? Yeah right! Not only is it too expensive, but a person who is *just* out of college should not be buying a house unless he has a good job lined up and has absolutely no plans of leaving the area within a few years at a minimum. Even if you have a great job lined up there is a good chance that you won't like it and will move on anyway, and a good chance you'll move away as well....
Im three years out of college, my life is so freaking chaotic that I can't even begin to imagine being tied into a mortgage. And for anyone who wants to say that it makes sense to build equity, blah blah blah, then take another look at mortgage amortization tables b/c you build almost no equity at all in the first five years, you might as well just live with roommates, save the difference and invest it.
However, I do think that its an unwise decision to buy a car that is that expensive (MB, BMW, etc) b/c if you are out of work you'll be stuck with a monster payment and no way to pay. When I was in college I was fortunate enough to drive an S4 that was paid for by my parents. When I graduated I sold it and bought an A4 avant b/c I didnt want car payments and needed something that was more reasonable to insure and fix should it break (the turbo lady scares me no more!). I dont know if you pay all of your own bills, but before you do anything you need to calculate how much one of those cars will actually cost - payment, insurance, fuel, and any mods that you plan. You'll be surprised how fast they add up. For this very reason Im avoiding the mod bug alltogether on the A4, hell I even drive with the crappy black steelies in the winter, but hey, they were free. And I do make very good money for three years out of school, but anything with a motor costs a truckload of money to own, just look at my damn aprilia that needs 300 mile oil changes at $15/liter and $17/filter....
