Trip computer swap (aka paging Daft?)

My P.O. told me he swapped the cluster to a non-trip computer version when the screen crapped out. I got one with a screen, assuming it would plug right in - well it doesn't..... I should've known what was up because I don't have the stalk buttons [duh].

So, now I'm hell-bent on getting this thing to work. My new cluster is the early version with the analog clock from a 1.8t (mine's a 1.8t) so everything works otherwise.

Has anyone done this before? I searched and came up with a bunch of dead ends except somebody said Daft did it.
