    buttons for card holder

I looked around and only found threads about how useless the card holder is. I thought I remember seeing somewhere someone replaced it with some OEM buttons, anyone know if this will work well? I could go to the dealer, but would rather not pay their stupid prices.

    Re: buttons for card holder

or maybe new buttons will just pop in without buying a separate surround piece?

    Re: buttons for card holder

I meant swap in something like the ESP button (switch might be a better word) across that space. Example, I'll be doing V1 hardwire at some point and want to use an OEM button as the mute. I guess for now, I'd have to put in 2 (?) other fake buttons as place holders. Seems to be the card holder might be the width of three of those "ESP" like buttons.

    Re: buttons for card holder

maybe this will help, scroll down to post #6 and instead of swapping in another cup-holder I want to put in more OEM buttons (ESP, or other):

I believe on the B7 the card holder is replaced with bottons and the dash looks identical to a B6. Might be just pick them up from a wrecker and drop them in.

    Re: buttons for card holder

Tyler, I have all the part numbers you need to do this. I got the blank button from nsxjr. I think he still has a few. Other than that you will need 2 blank covers and the switch holder. I have to run out, but I'll post the part numbers up in an hour or so.

    8E1-941-567--5PR BRACKET
    8E1-941-518--5PR COVER
    8E1-941-515--5PR COVER

Those are black (5PR). ESP button is in position 1. Those 2 covers are for positions 2 and 3. The blank button or the funk button are both position 4. Parktronic is 2 or 3, I can't remember.

    Re: buttons for card holder

problem is that sensor should be on windshield for better detection. you might be able to fit the remote display in there, but IMO a better alternative is what ADR offers (though I just realized their website is down?) in the gauge cluster

    Re: buttons for card holder

Perfect, thanks. so just to be clear, that bracket will hold three buttons (covers), or it is for 4 buttons and you just move your existing ESP into the new bracket along with three new ones?

4 buttons and you move your ESP.

ADR went out of business, I think.

    Re: buttons for card holder

    Hey Tyler,

Something along the lines of this?

Got the buttons from nsxjr, but it looks as if he doesn't sell them anymore.

Go to vagcat.com and look up the part numbers for the available buttons.

Ha, yeah thanks Bill. Guess I was too distracted with your CF trim, RNS-E, etc. to notice when I saw it a few weeks ago.

    Re: buttons for card holder

If you go to clearance, nsxjr has a few blank buttons for super cheap. There are some funk buttons in the classifieds here, I think.

    Re: buttons for card holder

Hmm the ones at NSXJR seem to be for different models. Anyway, I checked authenticaudiparts.com with part numbers you gave and they're really cheap there too. Although, Bill where did you get the two middle buttons with icons? Looks like parktronic and some sort of dome light switch?
Yeah I picked up a Funk switch from the classifieds today. I tried to get one a long time ago but they're on back order. Anyway, that's what motivated me to do this switch.

    Re: buttons for card holder

The switch with the rectangular symbol is for the rear shade. The one that looks like a dome light is for a German taxi roof light. There was a thread a little while back about a company doing custom buttons on ebay.de. They make some cool ones like the quattro gecko lizard, etc.

Is there a part number for ONLY the card holder cover piece? or do you have to get the entire assembly?

From what I can tell you have to buy the whole card tray.
