I took simple green to my head on the weekend and scrubbed that shit up. Is it possible that simple green gave me two blown coils the next day or was it coincidence.

What was your process and did you use any other products along with the Simple Green? From my experience, I'd have to say it's more process than product. I've degreased plenty of engine bays and never had a problem with Audis, or other makes and I use Simple Green diluted all the time.

Rusty? Sounds like they were already on their way to failing before the cleaning. I'm guessing that maybe the water pressure was a little too high and allowed some water to get in and damage the coils.

If the coils were out while cleaning the cover, did you have anything to cover the holes water tight?

Please explain the process you used to do the cleaning (of the cover and the coils).
