    Is something wrong?? (Mileage Question)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just bought a a4 3.0 USP Quattro and have gone through 2 full tanks with the first tank only lasting 215 miles and the second tank only lasting 210? Is this normal for a 3.0 V6 or could there be something wrong??? thanks for the help...

Re: Is something wrong?? (Mileage Question)

My 3.0 also gets about 275 per tank (with the gauge reading just below 1/4 tank). May be a stupid question, but you are putting in premium fuel right?

Do you know if all maintenance was done by the prior owner?

I have not been driving overly aggressive, very rarely do I shift over 4 rpm..I do have all the records it only has 17k miles on it.

Yes have been only putting in Premium.

^ I am going to guess you drive primarily aorund town or 'city' driving, and that you fill up shortly after the light comes on. If this is true, 215 sounds normal. During city driving you're getting around 15mpg give or take, and only filling up with 14-15 gallons.

If you fill up with more, or drive on the highway more often...you certainly should be getting better than 215.

Re: Is something wrong?? (Mileage Question)

Is your fuel gauge working properly? I know that some B6's have a problem with the sender unit, where sometimes when it gets down to a quarter of a tank the needle just goes all the way down and the computer will tell you you have 0 miles left. My car does this, so I normally just gauge how much fuel I have left off of the trip odometer.

Re: Is something wrong?? (Mileage Question)

I get between 20-22mpg. I have been keeping my receipts for a while now & I enter them in a spreadsheet. This is an 05 3.0 Cab. I put about 110 miles a day on it and I wanted to see any difference that could be noticed by changeing my driving style.
Check your tire pressure. Under-inflation can suck the MPG right out of your tank.

Re: Is something wrong?? (Mileage Question)

I don’t think i am Rambo reving or whatever...i have been driving pretty modestly shifting around 3k and never going above 4k...all city driving around town and just getting around 210-220....There must something wrong….always Premium gas too...

Re: Is something wrong?? (Mileage Question)

still sounds right for a 3.0 considering it's all city driving, and you probably have more left in the tank than you think when you fill up.

plus, shifting at 3-4k rpm isn't 'conservative'. I can drive around in my 1.8T without going past 2500rpm...and that is a much smaller motor and the turbo isn't even making boost yet. so a 3.0 should easily be able to get around town without revving past 2000rpm or so. It'll be slow, but you can't zip around and expect good mileage.

thats about what i get, im all city. i think what makes it worse for me is that i usually take short trips which hurts gas mileage even more.

Seems low. I get (at worst) 260 a tank doing all city driving. And that is with forced induction.

Re: Is something wrong?? (Mileage Question)

My display says I get 350 miles when Im on a full tank. Im new to Audi's so I dont know how accurate this really is, but its what I've been going by. I drive mostly on the highway though, that might have something to do with it.

Re: Is something wrong?? (Mileage Question)

That's calculated based on whatever your average MPG is at that moment. The ECU is known to be wildly inaccurate regarding that. Just reset your trip odometer when you fill up and see how many miles you really get per tank.

Don't sweat it, living in New York, with stoplights and stop signs everywhere, I would average anywhere between 200-230 per tank. Car is sold now.

For conservative driving, you don't need to rev over 3K. Go on a long hwy trip and see what you get, it should be about 90 to 100 miles per quater tick. Are you using 93 OCT?
