The box is actually plastidipped. 3M has a matt green. Bought that originally, but messed it up, so had to have it plastidipped last minute before WaterFest

Wish Audi still made a 3rd row S6 Avant and brought it to the US. Since they don't this is the best I could do for my lifestyle (3 kids, dog, sports, 20K miles per yr, sporty)

Looks like it could also be the Thule Spirit. They have a really similar shape.

This is the box that picked up in CL two weeks ago for $50. It's pretty beat up.

The plan is to use ABS cement (I'm currently making a batch with ABS scraps and acetone) and ABS pieces to patch up the hole and cracks. Then use fiberglass and epoxy resin on the inside to make it stronger than before.

I haven't decided whether I should paint it or vinyl wrap it.

Geez, what a bummer :( This is the second cargo box I had to pass up because they sent me pictures of when the box was pretty much new. After driving over 2 hours to get there, the box had ugly scratches EVERYWHERE. It didn't have any cracks so I would've just needed a paint job, but it wouldn't have been worth it.

I'm done trying to find a used cargo box. I've just decided to purchase a new one, but I need to find the best deal on the largest box I can get. Any ideas?
I found one that sears sells (I guess it's manufactured by Thule), but it's a little short at 76" and some of the reviews say it wobbles and vibrates at high speeds which leads to cracking. I wanted something that would fit a 7' long 27" wide surfboard and other goodies:

Skybox pro 18 would be perfect, but it's out of my budget. I can only spend $450, preferably less :)

You could also try Backcountry which currently has it for $449 but has $50 shipping and not sure if you pay tax. They do price match so you could try waiting for the REI sale then have Backcountry match. Depending on your tax you could figure out which is a better deal.

If the sale is in the beginning of May, I can definitely wait. I wonder if REI price matches. They have it for $499, but then I can get the $40 rebate and avoid paying shipping because it can be delivered to the store. If REI price matches, it'll be a done deal. I'll give them a call tomorrow. When I tried checking out at backcountry.com it didn't charge me tax which would be a better deal.

No price match. What an employee told me was to get the rebate ($40), and then I'll also get an additional $49 back at the end of the year because of the membership. He also told me that they were having that sale mid May and if it goes on sale for 20% off, I can just bring my receipt back and get almost another $100 back! :-) I'm really happy with how everything turned out. The free shipping on anything over $99 usually doesn't apply on cargo boxes, but I'm not sure. Backcountry.com was the only place that I found that actually has free shipping on oversized items.

Might've been too big for my b7 but it looks perfect on your B8.

I checked out the new Thule boxes at REI earlier today. I like the look of the new Sonic, but the small one appears too little to hold anything and the next size up is massive.

Who has the smaller Sonic box and what have you been able to fit in it skis/snowboards wise?
