Removing the Front Bumper to Install New Grill

Does anyone have a tutorial on how to remove the front bumper and install a new grill. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am ordering the new grill tomorrow. (If I can decide on which one to get S4 Blackout vs. RS4 Blackout Optic)

Nice.. I just tackled the project this weekend. While you're at it, you might as well do the CC mod. Here's a pic I took today, the grille will make your car look THAT much sexier:

    - Debadged - Blacked-out RS4 Grille - Prolumen 6000k HID - Llumar 35%/15% - Höen Fogs - CC Mod - VAG'd - Gun Smoked Tails -
    - Blacked-out Housing - VAG'd - CF DTM Style Spoiler - Painted Red Calipers - Red Interior LEDs - Stasis SS CO - Angel eyes -

CC mod aka Clear Corner mod is where you take out the amber reflector piece to give it the euro headlight look.

I actually like the contrast of the amber corners ... don't flame me too hard.

Lol it's a preference of taste. Good luck with the bumper removal. It's a pain in the ass the first time doing it.

Re: Removing the Front Bumper to Install New Grill

Removing the bumper for the first time will take about an hour. Here are some great tips I found, that aren't on any DIY:

    1. When all the screws are out, there are actually plastic tabs on each end above the reflectors. You have to pull each side of the bumper out kind of hard, but you'll see what I mean by tabs when they pop out.

    2. When you pull the bumper off, you'll be doing it one side at a time when it's time to slide off. From the two nuts you'll remove from the back side of the bumper, remember there are screws there on each end of your bumper. Put a rag over them immediately, or else they will slide around and scratch the edge of your fenders while you're futzing with getting the bumper completely off.

    3. Removing the grill is very simple. Just lay the bumper face down on a towel, and you'll see how there are just a few screws holding it in. Takes a few seconds to remove the grill with the bumper off.
    Ignorance is bliss.

Re: Removing the Front Bumper to Install New Grill

You don't have to remove the reflectors at all. When I was trying to take my bumper off, it felt stuck so I actually made a new thread asking what was wrong. People said just to "tug really hard on one end then the other" and then it came off.

Once doing this, I saw there were little tab things on the ends of the bumper that clipped into place that was holding the bumper on still. When I put my bumper back on, I had to place those tabs (on each side of the bumper) over the holes they clipped into, and pound it with my fist lightly to snap them in again.

The clippy things (they are attached permanently) are in the top left and right corners, right above the reflectors.
    Ignorance is bliss.

I have a question. I had someone change my grill for me, I know but anyways, i took off my belly pan today and a nut fell out. it was a nut that looked like a cone with a nut on it. is this one that you guys are talking about that get screwed into the fender?

Re: Removing the Front Bumper to Install New Grill

Yes, and I think it's a 10mm nut, 2 on each side of the bumper. Gold in color. There is a chance whoever was putting your bumper back on dropped that nut with their extension, and it just rolled down on top of that plastic pan. Maybe the installer didn't care to find it, maybe it was stuck somewhere and your driving around rattled it to where it was sitting, I don't know.
    Ignorance is bliss.

Re: Removing the Front Bumper to Install New Grill

Ok, lol i dont know how it happened either, but is there a way to put it back on with out having to take the bumper off to get at it? I don't think the guy cared all that much. but we will leave it at that. Is there an "easy" way to get it back on?

Can you take the bumper off by yourself, or do you need another person to help? I'm thinking I want to tackle the black-out grill mod.

I just did it about an hour ago. Took off the bumper, installed new grill and put it back on in about an hour. But if it's your first time it's probably gonna take 3 hrs lol

Yeah, S-line exterior comes standard for 08. You might want to look into SilverB7FL's thread? I think she has a modified RS4 grill for non-slines.

But why do you have the platinum gray platefiller? This is for the S4 grill right?
