i am pretty sure that is the issue with my car. I have a revo tuned gtrs setup and i can not pull more than 5-9pounds of boost. the exhaust note is very loud and the power is non existant. I get going and floor the car and it will go nowhere and then all of a sudden when i get to 6k the power comes back. i have not had the chance to run the vag on it and will prob not be able to do till this weekend. i am also not getting any cel. thoughts? thanks1

Re: talk to me about limp mode

well need to see some codes. you CAN get into limp without a CEL...although this is not dreadfully common. A boost leak would be the first cause for this...its typically small enough that the ECU only flips out momentariloly then resets as the condition deminishes...its prob a fueling problem in this case...jsut enough of a leak to cause the trims to bounce in and out of spec hence no CEL. Check for codes, then do a pressure test via the TIP and report back.

you think this would be cause from a faulty n75 or some issue surrounding my bpv? i know i am running way 2 stiff of a spring as when i let off the gas i get a voilent response. maybe i tore a whole in a hose near the n75. i will run the pressure test this weekend. th anks!

When i go into limp ill boost up till about 14psi then itll drop to about 5psi, hold then begin to build back up. Vag it and see if your in limp, clear the code, and see if the problem persists.

Re: talk to me about limp mode

Sometimes yes sometimes no. When i wouldnt get a cel it came up as overboost something, with the cell it was upper limit exceeded from somewhere. Sorry its so vaugue but that should you enough to get the point across.

I'm still looking. I borrowed the SLK55 for the weekend and put about 300 miles on it. The power was intoxicating. The torque started when you turned the key on and never quit! However the car was uncomfortable compared to the A4 and the gas mileage was horrendous. Granted I was beating it hard but I averaged somewhere around 11 or 12 MPG for 300 miles! Typically I am not that concerned about gas mileage, but 12 MPG at today's prices is kinda hard to ignore plus I missed shifting gears. So basically I passed on the SLK55. However we picked up a new car for the wife ('08 MB 300 sport sedan). So for now I'm driving the '03 C 230 sport and still looking. If I don't come up with something soon I think I will trade my kid for the Audi and let him drive the C 230 for a while. Long term I need to get rid of the C 230 because it now has 185K miles whereas the Audi is at 95K miles. Meanwhile work is rather hectic so I really haven't put much effort into finding a new ride. So I'll keep checking in every few days to keep up with the latest AZ news and see how you guys are doing!

    Cheers,

    Old Guy

Re: talk to me about limp mode

i would definatly look for a boost leak, could also be a trashed diverter valve... when mine went i was loosing boost pressure like crazy until i hit higher rpm's, definatly check the DV, and look over all your turbo piping...

Re: talk to me about limp mode

By the way, sorry to get the thread off track. you should definitely run a boost leak check. You could also unhook and plug the hose from the N75 to the waste gate and GENTLY drive the car to see if you can get any boost. Be careful because you will be running full waste gate with no boost reduction, so be ready to back off the throttle. If it appears you are getting plenty of boost I would suspect the N75. If not the boost leak test will probably show up a problem.

    Good luck!

Re: talk to me about limp mode

i am almost willing to bet its a boost leak... we had a jetta come in for a tranny problem and afterwards had almost this exact problem... one of our newer guys removed/disconnected some unnecessary things and upon initial road test it had almost the same problem described here.... although i doubt you have something disconnected, i am willing to bet your diaphram has failed on your diverter valve and is now laking off boost, but when you hit high rpms, it isnt leaking the boost off fast enough to cause you as much of a problem
