    Just installed Neuspeed Race springs...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I installed Neuspeed Race springs on my 98.5 1.8tqms sedan this afternoon that I picked up from a friend. I only had time to do the rears before I ran out of light but when I set it back down on the ground, it wasn't any lower. The springs came off of his 1.8t avant; I know the springs for avants and sedans are generally different to compensate for the weight difference but according to Neuspeed's website these exact springs (#'s match) are for 1.8t's, 2.8's, avants and sedans and should drop it 2 inches. I know springs need a few days to settle but I didn't expect it to be back at stock height when I set it on the ground. So, will they actually settle that much to drop it a couple of inches or did Neuspeed.com screw up in their description in saying that these are for avants and sedans? TIA

Yeah, I made sure they were properly seated before I reinstalled each assembly. Even if they weren't properly seated, it wouldn't account for the two inches higher than it's supposed to be sitting.

Re: Just installed Neuspeed Race springs...

    Part # is 55.02.25

Here's what it says on Neuspeed.com:

    Notes
Fits A4 Quattro 1.8T and V6 Sedan and Avant models, 1996-2000. Lowers approx. 2.0 (F) & 2.0 (R). Photo is for illustration only. Actual color may vary by kit.

My initial thoughts were that the rear springs were Sport's and not the Race springs because there is a note saying that if you have OE sport suspension (which I have) they will not lower the car but...
1 - Mixing and matching springs doesn't make sense and isn't something the guy I got them from would do.
2- In the pictures on their site, the Race springs are shaped differently and have plastic coating around the upper coils whereas the Sport springs do not and my springs definitely have the plastic coating on the upper coils. WTF mate!?

That's cute that you think we're somehow telepathically connected to each other but the fact of the matter is that I have cameras in your house and can see that you're watching Super Bad, that's why I said it.

Re: Just installed Neuspeed Race springs...

Do you have a sport a4? The 2 inches lower is 2 inches lower than the non sport a4, so if you have a sport a4 it will only lower it 1 inch. A4's also have a bit of a rake so the race springs in the rear will level out the car if you have a4 sport suspention springs in front. Like poopie said you'll see a difference once you install the front springs. My car is noticably lower with the race springs and bilstien struts in winter mode (top setting for the adjustment) than it was with stock sport suspention. My neuspeed race springs say Neuspeed race on them, even after a year of being on the car.

^yeah but I just looked at the car an hour ago and the rear is HIGH. If there is actually supposed to be rake in the rear, it sure doesn't show. I had H&R race on mine and you could see the difference from a mile away.

Re: Just installed Neuspeed Race springs...

Got the fronts finished up last night and it looks great. However the rears are still pretty high, hopefully they'll settle some more with time. I'm going to install Bilstein's this summer and a friend of mine seems to think they'll help with lowering it some more, what do you guys think? If not, I'll just pick up a set of H&R Race springs since I know how a car with those sits and love it. I'll post pics in a little bit.

Wheel size has nothing to do with it. The tires should be the same diameter which means stance and gap should be the same.

That is, if the overall diameter of the 16s with tires are equal to a set of 19s w/tires. I guess you're right, you can only go so big before hitting your control arms. either way, look at the rear. wtf
