    Evo VIII vs. Stg 2?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my best friend just bought an Evo. Do I stand a chance? (my specs r in my profile). I drove it when he was test driving it. It does feel fast...

**Also what is a normal boost output on a stage 2? I'm pullying .8 bars, but I remember getting 1-1.2 awhile ago...Boost leak or is that normal?

    -Thanks.

**either way I have a waaaay cooler looking blue **

If he gets an exhaust and a test pipe, the odds will be in his favor.

Re: Evo VIII vs. Stg 2?

this is probably not a good comparisson but...

with AWE OTS Stage 3 on pump fuel i chopped an EVO 8 with a chip and exhaust.... that was in about 100 degree heat...
pulled at least a one and a half car lengths with each gear i shifted..

ummm, I don't know about "destroy". Stock Evo VIII's usually run 12's in the 1/4 w/ a decent driver...

It might actually be a good race if your buddy can't drive, but don't underestimate those cars

ehh, take those numbers with a grain of salt. I've personally SEEN bone stock EVO VIII's run high 12's on a cool night w/ some good gas... This was the only example I could find, and BOV's don't make that much of a difference...

If a car is stock a BOV wont really do much at all .. if anything you would need to extra air pressure to be circulated back in

The data is from magazine tests or manufacture claims. Bone stock on recommended manufacture octane.

thanks guys. I'll keep ya informed in the coming weeks how a real 1v1 race goes :-D.

but if you care, he got a crazy deal on it, from what it seems like at least. I think he got it for a around 17k. And it has only 35XXX miles. Its in pretty good condition, for being a lancer.

I'll take my leather (etc.) any day of the week for a tad slower of a car. :-D

No see. our cars just match our personalities now. Hes the crazy mother F***** who would go on the opposite just of the street just to beat me. I'm the relaxed driver who likes pulls when people think there hotter than shit. So our cars pretty much match us :) lol

But he's been jealous of my car since the dawn of time. And now he has something to be close to me at least (he had a volvo s60 t6) before this. i shat on it. :-D

Oh and he knows I some what knowledgeable on AZ and forums etc. Does anyone know of a good Evo forum I could refer him to?

your stage 2 will beat a stock evo, for sure. ive raced two and pull hardcore.

simple mods such as turbo back exhaust and a reflash will most likely beat you. i havent raced a VIII in the S4, but ive raced a IX and that thing was FAST! with just a tune they can run low 12's. iirc vishnu says around a 12.2

.8 bars seems pretty low for a stage 2. May want to look into that before racing your friend.

I may sound newbish, but is there a DIY on checking Boost leak?

*and my other friend is parting out his evo. The VIII is gong to buy alot of parts off him. So I should have a chronological detail of what it takes to take me over from the very beginning. :-D*

sounds like you need to get your car checked out first; you should be seeing 1+ BAR.
Though, a well-running 2+ will take an Evo. Throw some race gas in for good measure.
Here's me beating an Evo IX MR (twice) in the 1/8 and again around a track.

12K in his motor he should have completely murdered you..

I can tell you since I have an Evo VIII at least it's the "weakest" of the bunch. If he had a IX with mivec, you are in more trouble. It takes a lot more mods to break into 11's.

Stock form I put a 12.7 on my car. Computer tuning, which is so cheap.. can easily make his car faster. Once he starts dropping other things in like the full exhaust and cams.. he'll be in the 11's.

It should be really fun! If he really is "stock" then you'll beat him up.. If he's a bit sneaky he can up the factory boost quite a bit, tune it a little.. and you'll have a good race :)

Re: Evo VIII vs. Stg 2?

This thread is like repost gallure.

When I was 100% stock, I raced a friends EVO8 that had fullexhaust, and a bigger FMIC.

I was neck and neck with him until 3rd gear where he would pull about 3/4 car on me.

If you know how to drive your car and he is only decent you will DESTROY him. Some people just need to learn how to launch, or shift a little quicker.

The 9 is the one to look out for, and the 8 is nothing without cams or a bigger turbo

Re: Evo VIII vs. Stg 2?

lots off bullshit here. Evo's ar freakin fast

my friend got a EVO 9.

Cat deleted, 3 inch end muffler, remap @ 1.8 bar, cold air intake and the spray on the IC. i'm stage 2, 268@wheels and the thing murdered my S!

from a 60km/h when the 3rd honk went the evo pulled 2 cars immediatly, and in 3rd and 4th gear it stayed at about 3 carlengths from me.

it ran 12.55 and some more 12.5x on gtech with 2 guys in the car on a crappy uphill road.

stock you will kill it, but when it's chipped and exhaust it's becoming a monster, think wih only chip-exhaust-CAI a evo 9 kills a stage 2+
