    Re: Manual trans, remote start?

you'll need a relay setup to bypass the clutch switch. Some cars have 2-3 separate switches, you'll need to find out with one(s) are the winners. Most remote starts have a line to tie into the e-brake signal (easy), and I used that same lead to tie into the shifter linkage with a magnetic contact that would open the connection if the shifter was in any position but neutral. I also took it one step further and added a second shock sensor that was only active during startup, and de-sensitized, to the point that it would only register if the car lurched forward during an attempted start in gear (testing it was interesting to say the least...) The install itself isn't very complicated, but it all depends on what level of safety you're looking for. There are some remote starts designed specifically for a manual trans car, but I really don't like the way they account for the car being in/not in gear...they can be faulted quite easily...

someone already mentioned it...but it's tough to find a shop that will actually do it for you.

That's what I was worried about. I really don't have a problem wiring things myself, but everyone I talked to has told me not to even try an alarm, its way too complicated.

    Re: Manual trans, remote start?

More complicated than installing a regular alarm/remote start. 3 more modules that you need to install. 1st clutch bypass, 2nd antitheft bypass, 3rd Gear selection sensor.

Best Idea - Go somewhere that will install a Compustar for you.

Mine works great. About a mile starting range with the remote and the option for internet remote start. (Yes you can remote start your car anywhere you can connect to the internet)
