    Painted Caliper Question

So I want to paint my brake calipers but I want to do it right which would involve taking them off. Am I going to have hydraulic fluid going everywhere when I remove them or what? Any help would be great.

    Re: Painted Caliper Question

You dont have to take them off to do it right. Its a matter of buying the right kit. As far as taking them off and getting fluid every. No you wont just have a container ready to catch what does come out. You will have to bleed the brakes afterwards. Make sure you use a brush on kit not a spray kit. Make sure the brakes are clean of and kind of road dirt and fluids.

    Re: Painted Caliper Question

I used Plasti Kote caliper paint on mine and it has lasted 3 yrs. Have done several cars with it and they have all lasted. I do it while the caliper is on the car also. I clean the caliper with a good degreaser and wire brush, then carefully mask it off and spray away. I use 3-4 light coats and have had no problems at all.

2nd that. I've had really good luck with high temp engine enamel as well.

I unbolt the caliper and remove pads, but do not remove lines as I hate bleeding brakes. clean thoroughly, mask and paint. done.

Do not waste your time with a brush on system...way to much time for slightly better coat and big PITA.

I would wait until you replace your rotors and pads , clean them up well , spray them on the car , replace the rotors and pads , easy and clean.
Personally adding your mods in your sig is just silly to me .

I disagree, Ive used spray on and it was cracking after about 8 months. I used the G2 which I got from Eastwood.com. Its not even slightly hard to apply and you dont have to risk over spray if you do it on the car.

I do agree with waiting till you replace the rotors and pads since you should also do the fluid then anyways. Thats when I did mine.

    Re: Painted Caliper Question

All depends on the spray used and prep of the calipers and work area. Mask of everything properly and no worries about over spray. Mine has lasted for almost a year now, still as good as day one. Through Summer heat to New England Winters with salt.

X2 I just used that on my rear rotor hats, spacers & Calipers. Easy brush on, no mess, and is a ceramic (high temp) paint.
It even comes with a can of caliper cleaner.
