    Moving from A4 Forum

Hey guys! Recently sold my 2001 A4 1.8TQ. Car was very clean and I loved it, but starting hitting that 90K mark and a plethora of creaks, rattles and also a number of wear and maintenance items were needed to replace including a new clutch.

I decided I wanted something better handling and looked at BMW Z3, Porsche Boxter as well as a few others. Settled on a 01ish TT and began researching.

Looked at several 01 TTQs, a few roadsters, coupes, etc. I drove both Quattro and FWD and personally I prefer the FWD. I definitely felt the extra weight on the Quattros as the FWD felt more nimble to me. The FWD still handled great.

I finalized between a couple 01 FWD 180hp and a 01 Roadster. In the end I decided on the coupe - better lines, slightly better storage capability so more realistic as a daily driver for me (used to have a Miata and loved it but just didn't work as a daily driver due to space considerations).

I found an impeccably taken care of, 2001 TT FWD 180hp Coupe, Silver with Ebony, with 48K miles, for 10.5K! I think I got the deal of the century. Car was owned by an older gentleman - an amazing guy whom I struck a friendship up with while inquiring about the car. In the end he gave it to me for cheap because he liked me and wanted the car to go to a friend instead of a stranger.

The car drives fabulously. Great handling, noticeably quicker than my A4 but the same general "vibe" in terms of engineering, quality and design as my silver A4. Happy to move from the A4 forum to my new TT community.

    Re: Moving from A4 Forum

You're right, this forum is quiet. I suppose it makes sense since the proportion of TTs to A4s is substantially less.

The A4 was a great car for what it is. A supremely daily drivable sedan that you can kick up with all kinds of easy mods and that drives very sporty and looks great. I kind of miss the car. The TT is great for what it is, which is a relatively daily driveable, luxury sport coupe.

Coming from the A4 I'm feeling the NYC potholes more, but I'm enjoying the better handling and style of the car. I'm glad I didn't go for the roadster (no offense to your roadster owners). The Roadster is a nice looking car and I for one as a previous Miata Owner, love the top down experience. But I can imagine how many creaks and rattles the Roadster must have and those types of noises drive me crazy.

Also the coupe has a suprisingly amount of storage space (if you include the back storage space a/k/a rear seats).

    You bought a FWD TT??? and a 180Hp instead of a 225?

I loved my TT when I owned one. They're quick (the 225s), good handling cars. Mine proved to be very reliable and got awesome gas mileage!

I ended up selling though for something quicker and something with 4 doors.
