question regarding ESP

i have 01 A4 1.8t 5spd, when i turn the key on the ESP light comes on in the cluster, but on the dash there is no on/off button for the ESP, does this mean that my car is not equipped with ESP or is it that i just can't turn it off ???

You don't have it. Go push your car (get it sideways in a parking lot) and you will see. The button on the dash next to fog lights there would be an ESP button.

but why would they show it on the dash ?

So every time you start your car you want the feature you can't have and go buy a new audi.
