Question Explanation Please: Lowering Springs + Stock Shocks = Bad?

People keep sliding references to the failure of stock shocks with lowered springs, however do not explain. Can someone please tell me what exactly the major effects are? Thanks in advance.

higher spring rate that the stock shock can't handle for long.

I did springs only on my A6 and the results were bad. Harder ride, bottomed out on everything and no improvement in handling. It's worth spending more for coilovers. I put Bilsteins on my S4 and the ride and handling are great, plus they're adjustable for height and dampening.

Dampers and springs need to be matched for a good ride and good handling. When you use after market spring with stock shocks the additional cycling of the shocks and the lowered ride height cause the shocks to wear much more quickly.

I have H & R springs on order to fit to my B7 RS4 but no-one seems sure as to how they will effect the DRC system. Surely, if the strut is more compressed once the springs are fitted, there will be excess pressure in the DRC system - where does it go to? The H & R dealer says that the springs were developed to use on the standard Audi system but cannot answer my question!

You spent $75k on your car. Don't skimp on suspension. Do it right or stay stock. Stasis baby!!!!

Not a cost issue - just wanted to retain the benefit of DRC. I'll try springs first and if not happy, then...............
