*PICS* Custom door sill ..... What logo/design should I go with?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Had some time over the weekend to create my own doorsill....

It is 1/16" Aluminum, and what I did was cut into the plastic doorsill to recess the aluminum strip somewhat into the doorsill. Took some sand paper and some aluminum polish and made it into a brushed look.

I think it turned out pretty nice, I just have to go with a logo to put on...

    "Four Ring"
    "quattro"
    "S-line" badge

    Tell me what you think!

Re: *PICS* Custom door sill ..... What logo/design should I go with?

Thanks guys for the words! It actually took ALOT of time to recess the aluminum into the plastic doorsill, but come to think of it wouldnt be necessary if I were to by aluminum 1/32 thick!

I know for a fact I will either choose the four rings or quattro.

I am leaning more toward the rings.....

i vote that you polish the aluminum and then mask off the rings and make those "brushed"
then clear coat the whole thing so as to preserve the look

or if you're SUPER good with your dremel - cut out the rings, and fill it with a black plastic filler/repair.

I know it hard to see from those crappy cell phone picks, lol...but it already has that 'brushed' look and I did polish it up already, but I need to repolish since I was manhandling it, lol. I have yet to clear coat though...

As for the rings and dremeling it out...that would take ALOT of time...1/16" aluminum if pretty thick!

EDIT** Does anyone know the part number for the front drivers door sill? How much is it? I messed mine up pretty bad (it was my trial piece, lol)

i know it's already brushed... i was suggesting that you sand it further and then polish it to that "mirror like shine" and then lay out a template of the rings and scuff up the metal so that you have an almost-chrome shine with the duller looking rings on top. then clear coat the whole deal.

Would sandblasting give the rings that textured feel? If so, i would like to go that route, but dont have access to a sandblaster down south....my dad does have one in NYC though.....hmmm

In other words how could I go about painting the rings on the aluminum? Is there a stencil or somethinf that nature I could use?

It should give it a slightly textured feel. Basically it would be like if you used sandpaper to make a design. Here's an example of what it would like. Sorry but its the best example I have on hand. Its from a test button a guy made for his DIY projector. Example

I'm sure if you mask out the rings properly it should look really good

Re: *PICS* Custom door sill ..... What logo/design should I go with?

this is what i would do. find a machine shop in your area with a cnc mill. get the design and mill the piece. it would probably only take a couple of minutes. then u could cut out the black pieces of the ring.

actually now that i think about it. it would be much more pro if you only had the rings in metal and inlaid that into the plastic.....

make one up in photoshop to the right size (use inches for your dimensions instead of pixels so that you can stretch it to the size of your "canvas" and know it will fit) then print it on either card stock or another thicker paper. cut out with an x-acto knife, tape down and mask off the rest -- spray/paint away.

Right, right that is exactly what i have been TRYING to do...but you cant cut out the rings because what about the centers? You need something to hold out the inners of the rings....do you see what i am saying?

set it up with a line through the middle. kind of like patterns for carving a jack-o-lantern.

then when you're done painting you can go back and touch it up.
