Putting s4 bumper on my 96. Sitting a little low under headlights.

It seems everything is snapped in and the bumper is on safe but it is sitting low under the headlights and under the grill. Is there anything I am forgetting? This happen to anyone else?

Did you put in the 2 like 6 inch bolts in from underneath?

Re: Putting s4 bumper on my 96. Sitting a little low under headlights.

Fore-aft alignment is achieved by adjusting the bumper with the 2 long vertical M8 bolts loosened, then tightening.

I used a 10mm in-hex socket (or 10mm allen key) from underneath to adjust once the bumper had loosely been fitted.
    from AW, helped me

I dont quite get the adjustment part. Are you tightening something with that 10mm or what? Can you let me know exactly what you did?

Yeah i didnt exactly get it at first when i did mine either but when the bumper is off (maybe you can do it with it on? not sure) take a 10mm allen and right where the bumper bolt goes, it will fit it. Turn it until you see it going up, i had to move my drivers side about 1/4 of an inch up until i was happy..hope that helps

TJ: Are there similar adjustment points on the rear bumpers? Also, how much are used S4 bumpers going for these days?

So did you buy new bumper shocks or did the stock ones work?

You need facelift bumper shocks to make the gap go away.

Re: Putting s4 bumper on my 96. Sitting a little low under headlights.

why do i need facelift bumper struts? I think I have seen 96's mount them right on.

Any the dude who posted that pic and writeup. Does turning those screws make the struts go up some how? How did it work out?

I read somewhere that the pre-facelift bumper shocks are shorter.

Do you just tighten that One bolt? or do I have to tighten all three of them?

Re: Putting s4 bumper on my 96. Sitting a little low under headlights.

My S4 bumper sat waaay down even though it was attached on the sides. But when I tightened the bolts it moved up into the correct position. Don't know if that works for you though.

I have the pre-facelift bumper shocks.

Pre and post facelift A4 bumper supports are EXACTLY the same. Same part numbers from '95 - '01.

There are only 3 different ones on the B5 platform:

    A4 pre and post facelift
    S4 pre and post facelift
    RS4.

Re: Putting s4 bumper on my 96. Sitting a little low under headlights.

no you dont tighten/loosen the 3 torx that go to the radiator support. you take a 10mm allen and where the two bumper bolts go, you put the allen under there, you start turning it and it will either go up or down, in your case make it so it goes up and you should be all good. sorry it looks confusing in the pic

so Siena, in two weeks when I throw my s4 bumper on my 96 2.8, I shouldn't have to replace my bumper shocks? Just perhaps realign my supports up/down? That would be excellent.

When i got my s4 bumper on the pre facelift bumper shocks were 1/2" too long. I had to buy post facelift bumper shocks. Bumper sits perfect now.

I have been told that the US spec A4's have a slightly longer front bumper but I'm not sure how true that is and I can only think the S4 bumper is the same as the Euro spec S4 bumpers.

Where are the two bumper bolts? What will go up or down? In the picture there are three bolts and it looks like someone is tightening them.

I still dont get what to do to raise my bumper. Alot of people on this thread have said that something has worked for them, but between these pictures and all the different responses I still can't figure out what to do.

the two bumper bolts that you unscrew to remove the bumper. in the front. underneath you can fit a 10mm allen and it will raise it up.

I'm pretty sure you're right; the ecode bumper is shorter and doesn't have washer caps?

there doesn't appear to be any "pre" and "post" facelift bumper supports, correctly stated by Siena:

Modified, good info there. This should clear up some of the people (Like myself) That keep getting told otherwise. It's kind of confusing actually, some people tell me I need to buy the shocks, others say it'll bolt right up.

well there are definitely 2 types of bumper shocks. I was just as skeptical as you but when i stopped by the body shop, the manager showed me the two and they were definitely different. Since the insurance estimate didn't include bumper shocks i had to front the cash myself.
