    flex joint

The PO of my car installed a borla exhaust, and a few days ago I noticed the braided flex joint is all torn up and it's causing a huge exhaust leak. I searched a few things and found that those commonly rust out, and I was wondering if it would be alright to have an exhaust shop cut the flex joint out and weld on pipe in its place.

If that's not an option, do you know if it's held on by clamps, or is it welded on?

    Thanks

    Re: flex joint

I got mine cut & rewelded for $70 at a local muffler shop.

The dealership wants to change the entire pipe with the flex joint, and the pipe alone is over $100 not including labour.
I own a budget Audi...VW. Anyone want to give donations?

    Re: flex joint

That happened to me. I took it to the muffler shop and a $140 later it was fixed. All the guy did is cut the flex pipe off and welded a straight pipe on.

    Re: flex joint

the flex pipe is pretty much needed on our cars due to the amount of drivetrain movement... I wouldnt stick a piece of solid pipe in there.

You can get stainless flex sections online, like summitracing.com and a bunch of other places... get a new one and have a shop weld the new one in place... or you could use a pair of band-clamps and do it yourself.
