Impressions of my B5A4 Avant 1.8t Tip

Okay, so after finally getting some time to drive the car for a bit, here are my impressions of the car. The car is somewhat gutless unless you really get on it. Definitely no power below 2k RPM. After you get above that, it moves pretty good, but I wish there was more power down there. (I have an APR chip, but haven't had a chance to install it. Plus I don't think it'll do much in terms of power down low since it's probably waiting for boost to kick in.)

The car gets about 23mpg with a mix of 50/50 city/freeway driving. Keep in mind, this is being "nice" to the car.

The car is loud with roadnoise though. I know this is due to the fact that it's a wagon/hatch and it just acts like a giant box. A lot louder than I thought it would be.

The car handles pretty nicely I will say. Nice response, controlled body roll. I'm pleasantly surprised to say the least.

I'm sure i'll have more comments later.

You are correct about no power below 2k, and the chip will cause a surge in power at around 2.6k as it comes on fast.

I am surprised to hear you feel your Avant is noisy as I feel my B6 A4 is very quiet.

    They do drive nicely. Enjoy.

Get that chip installed ASAP. It will make a huge difference. The TIP will be a little slower than a 5 speed though. Avants are just a little bit noisier compared to the sedan. One good thing is that you get to hear your exhaust more.

I'm not complaining by any means. I knew what I was getting myself into.

Yeah, I need to get that chip installed. Just need to find the time.

It's funny, because my wife's first car had probably 110hp at the crank. Now her car has 260hp. After we drive the A4 around, her car seems so smooth and fast! LOL! Hopefully the chip addresses the "bottom end" omph.

As for the exhaust, not on this car. This is sour "beater/tahoe/camping/city" car. I'll keep you guys posted when I install the APR. Hopefully it should be this week. (wife is traveling and i'm working from home)

That is with me being nice!

Given that we have 3 cars and all the cars pretty much get the same MPG, it really comes down to where we're going to decide which car to drive.

Need to put my APR in still though.
