blown 2 coilpacks in 2 days

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
On friday i got what felt like a blown coil pack and a cylinder number misfire code. I replaced it with one of the tow spares I had in my trunk. When I cleared the cel it didint come bak on and everything seemed to be normal.

Lastnight that one I just replaced went again. Same thing and same code. It wasint a new one it was a used one that I saved when I had all 4 replacedabout a year and a half ago.

Has anyone had anything like this. Maybe the conector that plugs into the coil is shot? I need to use the car today and I dont have a cel and its running good right now I also dont have any more spares.

I was thinking that that one I put in was maybe not in that great of shape but when the dealership replaced all 4 last year and have me the two best for spares that maybe they mixed them up and gave me one that wasint that great.

Re: blown 2 coilpacks in 2 days

^^ i had the same issue, i changed my coilpacks with 4 slightly used ones off the same car, and the week after all 4 were blown! but check and see if u see any damage to ur engine wiring harness! mine looked like it had been eaten by a rat up front and caused me to go through 2 complete sets of coils and plugs!

I think it may be best to replace all of the packs once any one of them goes bad. Keep the good ones for emergency only, they don't seem to last long once one goes out.

The ones in the car I was told by the dealership that they were the new updated kind that will last longer and not even 15 K later one goes out. Not to mention the charged me like 300 somthing. Ill prob order the hitachi E's that papachristou seems to like. Hope there better than the Bremi's.

Re: blown 2 coilpacks in 2 days

Heres a question for you guys...is anyone running 06C-905-115-L coils. I guess they are the same as the "R"s but the have a nice red top. Its wierd tho because esc only lists them for the 3.0 but a couple others list them for the 1.8 also and say that they are the same as the "R's" so they will work in any car that uses the R's. Anyone?

strange, haven't heard of many 3.0 coils going bad. I've never had a problem and my car is '02. guess as long as you didn't have to pay, doesn't matter.

I know many people have said 3.0 and 1.8T coil packs are different. They may work, but for the cost probably not worth it.

Re: blown 2 coilpacks in 2 days

just blew an "R" coil last night... car was running smooth and boosting strong, all of a sudden i climb a small hill and car starts chugging... i had to replace it with a stock coilpack i had in the trunk from when i replaced all cp last summer (7 months / 8000mi.) its funny, cause the stock cp lasted about 50k mi.
