    Re: Car auctions?

you have to get a dealers license to go, or you just have to know someone that has one, they can get you a guest pass. my friend's uncle has one and he has been going lately, interested in some cars?

    Re: Car auctions?

Why would you want to buy a car at an auction? My understanding is that auctions are where cars that can't be sold on a lot are dumped. I've traded in a couple of Audis that immediately went to auctions. My old A4 had been modded and the tranny was going, so the dealer sent it to auction. I just traded in my A6 2.7T where the turbos were leaking oil and needed to be replaced, so again the dealer sent it to auction. You don't know what you are going to get there and have no time to fully check out the mechanicals on the car. If you were to see my A6 2.7T, you'd think it was in absolutely perfect condition, beautiful inside & out, but would have no idea that it needs a $5k repair on the turbos. Buyer beware. In most cases in life, you get what you pay for. Go to an auction hoping to save a thousand or two on the purchase price and then end up spending twice that in repairs and headaches.

What about police auctions. Where the cars come from confiscated/impounded cars.

Do you see any gain with these type of auctions? And I'm guessing the same license is needed.

    Re: Car auctions?

For a small fee, the dealer can pay the auction for a mechanical or frame guarantee once a car is purchased. If anything is found, the car can be returned to the auction.

For the guy who asked about getting a license, it's not that easy. You have to buy a bond, have a location (not your house), signs, insurance, resale license, business license, etc.

Also, there are no guest passes at the major auctions. A lot of the shady dealers sneak in customers, but you don't want to do business w/ folks who break rules, do you?
