    Question Rebuild or New?!?!?!?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've got about 1 qt. of oil loss every 2-3 months and have now come to the crossroads of either doing a rebuild or buying a new turbo So these are my options:
    1) Rebuild factory K03
    2) Buy a K04
    3) Buy a used K04 and rebuild it(Is the a good option? and what should I be looking for in a overly worn turbo?)

Also by what I've been reading the K03/K04 housings are the same. Is it possible to buy K04 internals and pout them into my K03 housing? And for me the BT is not really an option. Sorry guys, just don't have the money to be spending on all the supporting mods for that one. At least with the K04 I don't have to have them all upfront or at all

    Re: Rebuild or New?!?!?!?

if you have to buy a turbo, go bigger...and go new... it's not worth rebuilding an old oem turbo IMO... now if you're running a gt40r and the cartridge gave out...different story...but not with oem...again IMO.

What do you want hear? What the guy posted above is true...dont buy a used turbo (few exceptions).

Secondly, I wouldnt even think about putting on bigger turbo until you get that oil loss/oil burn-off fixed! It might be the turbo burning oil (if you lucky)...but if it id the engine...get that squared away first!

    Re: Rebuild or New?!?!?!?

I say go with the K04. If you have to get a new turbo and have the money for one, just go with the new K04. You can keep all the same engine internals, but if you are driving an Audi in the first place hopefully you have the money to get some supporting mods, IMO. You really don't want to mess with a used turbo unless you are trying to fix your car up to sell. I will be selling my K03 once I get my new turbo and FMIC so if you want to go that route, PM me.

    Re: Rebuild or New?!?!?!?

I know my response will not be popular. You can get it rebuilt from a shop who does this work day in/out (GPOP or someone local) or get a rebuild kit off from ebay and have it installed. I had mine installed by a machine shop that I trust. So far 1k miles, only time will tell how long it will last. Right now, KO3S is pretty strong.
