    Seafoaming question.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Im going to try seafoaming...

    2 Questions.

    1) I got some bulk "windshield/vaccum line" from auto parts store. Is there a certain size your supposed to hook up to the mani?

    2) When you take off the one time use clamp..How do you secure the line back up to the mani when your done?

    Re: Seafoaming question.

    1. Just use the same size as your existing vac lines on your throttle body.
    2. Zip ties, or those little clamps that have the screw to cinch them down.

If it helps, I used aquarium tubing when I did mine. Fits like a glove.

    Re: Seafoaming question.

I wasn't sure of the size so I bought three tubing sizes, 2 feet of each, for a total of like 2$.
The suction is enough to keep the tube there, I haven't put any retainer on it afterwards.

i did it all in one weekend...

the crankcase/oil method i would say do before the oil change.

the intake method and gas tank method i would say you can do at any time, but you will probably notice best results if u do it together with the oil change.

seafoam = The catalyst killer... Dont do it, I dought it works. You have to suck it up very slow if you suck is up too fast it will smoke alot... I can make a brand new car smoke like some of you do it... i wouldn't do it at all

    Re: Seafoaming question.

The vac line is 3.5mm if I'm not mistaken.

Can you really use zip ties? Cool, I am redoing all my vac lines when the weather gets warmer, was wondering if I could just use color-matched zip ties. Nice.

If you suck seafoam up too fast the engine stalls, lol. Smoke doesn't mean anything - it burns off after a bit anyway, I think you're paranoid. I did it in gas, oil and mani - no harm done. I don't plan on using it all the tiem but every once in a while. It's been over 10k miles now without an issue after first use. Idles a bit smoother if anything.

What am i paranoid about, I think you over look everything. This crap wont do anything at all... I pulled my engine apart at 100k and i had zero carbon build up, my cylinder head looks new, no varnish at all. Yet you use some crap that will do more harm then good... Thanks Mr. spelling teacher

I really dont think you can possibly deny the number of happy seafoam customers so Im going to have to go against your word.

Anyways I did it today anyways. Much easier than expected. I didnt stall it at all. I was actually expecting more smoke but it still smoked pretty good.

    Re: Seafoaming question.

^^ see, what u don't get is that some of us got our cars from previous owners and some didn't do their oil changes on time and crap and when they did they used some generic brand oil, and since our engines have sludge issues, it is always better to be safe the sorry! Now explain to me why a mild detergent like Seafoam can harm and engine parts if it has been used for many years. i used it in my uncles 1988 mbz 560sel and throttle response and smoothness was much better, and if anything it felt healthier, so what are we losing, dirt?

    Re: Seafoaming question.

    Kirk,
that is exactly why I did seafoam. I dont want any issues coming up because of what the previous owner did to the car.

But anyways it also gave me a chance to inspect vac lines as well.

    I only did vac today.

I am still a little bit away from my next oil change but I rarely have a saturday to do this kind of stuff so I did it today.

and I got my tt injectors going in soon so when they go in, I'll dump some seafoam in the tank.

As far as the mani goes. Just listen to the engine and youll be fine. Youll know when its dying. Think back to when you first learned to drive standard lol

I did this on my B5 years ago but haven't done it on the B6 yet. I only did the vac lines though and nothing else. I wish I had tried it in my crankcase. I think Ill try it in a month or so when the oil change is due.

Easy. Yours is a rare opinion on using seafoam, I'm only sharing the more common side that others have apparently supported since my last post. You're entitled to your own thoughts. No one can say whose are better THAN whose... j/k

i think the argument against seafoam in the crankcase is that it could act too quickly, basically dislodging chunks of whatever it's cleaning, allowing those chunks to possibly block flow in (maybe critical) places. auto-rx is supposed to clean just as well (or better) nice and slow in it's 2000 mi clean and rinse cycles. if these forums are anything to go by, i don't remember anyone tracing issues back to seafome.

i've seafoamed via gastank. it made the butt-dyno happy, but it could have been placebo. i haven't done the manifold thing, but again, people here seem happy with it. when i get time, i may do it, along with maybe the maf cleaning, iridium plugs, blah blah blah. lets' face it, for most of us, we just like tinkering

^^ Well said my friend, i think seafoam is a speedy way to clean the crankcase like on ur way to ur oil change or what not just dump it in!
