    transmission question!

I was wondering if a Transmission from 99 A4 1.8T Quattro will fit in a 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro? It is from a car that was flipped. How do I see if there is any problem? I never delt with transmissions before so a little help please. Thanks in advance.

    Re: transmission question!

Manual trans should be a direct swap. Is something wrong with your current trans?

You should totally reuse the 2000 center diff with the 99 trans and send me the 99 center diff and housing.

    damn, I am too late...

... What's the difference in the two center diff's? Does it make a difference, Though I have an idea what you're doing w/ it.

well what my mechanic said was yea "its the tranny". now what was happening was that it would go into gear but get stuck into gear and won't shift unless i come to a complete stop. It would also not go into 5th gear at all. the last time i drove it, it got stuck in reverse and start to bog then move and bog again. so yea i don't know whats wrong with it. i have no idea about transmission at all. that is why i brought it to a shop. tell you the truth i have no idea about audi engine and such. I know alot about hondas :) (yes im asain lol)

    Re: transmission question!

sounds like the synchro keys/synchro's are takin a crap. Possibly a shifter-fork issue. I'm no manual trans guru, but they're pretty simple as far as internals and stuff. So if it were me I'd try to overhaul it myself. In your position, replacement is probably the easiest option.

If you weren't 5 states away I'd take a look in it and see what's wrong and hopefully be able to fix it. That doesn't really look like an option though.

Isn't that the reason why we all drive these...

I'm just under the impression that I'm special , Cuz I break stuff nobody else does, paint stuff weird ways, I hate roof racks, I bought it to play with it, etc...

Without diggin into the trans it's really hard to say what the issue is, I wish I could diagnose stuff over the internet. Because I could patent it and make a shit ton of money. However, it doesn't work like that. If it did though the government would probably shut me down b/c tech's would be losing their jobs.
