It has a more refined sound, fairly similar to stock when not under load. Under load it gives off a good growl. My friends refer to it as the subwoofer, especially engine braking below 2000rpm.

It's a very refind euro sound which is similar to stock. Nice thing about this system is that it's 2.25" and not 2.5".

A 2.25" system will keep the exhaust gases hotter as they exit the car vs a 2.5" system. Hotter gases move more faster. It's about keeping the velocity of the gases up and to do this they should be kept as hot as possible.

The more you move away from the stock pipe diameter, the more bottom end torque you lose. You can run a 2.5" system but I perfer a 2.25". In an Audiworld shootout, I think it was Frankstein's car, produced the most power, and he just had a Milltek cat-back, along with a few other mods.

Seeing as the stock system is a 2" system, I like the idea of just going one step up to to a 2.25" system.

so if one were looking for a sound that's just a little bit louder than stock, would they go res or non res with the milltek CB?

Re: How's Miltech catback sound in b6 ?

it sounds great... with either res of non- i have the resinated and i love it. at crusing speed you cant really tell you have an upgraded exhaust, but when you step on it has a nice clean rumble.

I have resonated and they sound nice. It's not as noticable at lower RPMs but there is definitely a difference. Hit the gas and they sing!

Re: How's Milltek catback sound in b6 ?

    I bought a non-res for my S4.

When I first had it installed it sounded a little droney at around 2k rpm, but now that it's got a few kms on it it has mellowed a little and sounds fantastic.

As others have said, if you're only going cat back get the non-res. If getting the full exhaust I'd personally go the resonated system instead.

Re: How's Milltek catback sound in b6 ?

wow! Now that is eye opening!! Frankenstein had the biggest change in both numbers. 27.8 HP and 26.3 ft-lbs. Philip Yiu's car got better tq numbers but his hp suffered. Change of 12.1 HP and 35.9 ft-lbs.

"This next car was dubbed Frankenstein and belongs to AudiWorld user JDBlueAudiS4. He runs an AWE chip, a Milltek cat back exhaust and a Stratmosphere Hyperflow intake."

That's it, chip, CB exhaust and an intake. hmmmm...but if you really wanted power, you needed to buy a B5 S4...

"To keep the B5 vs. B6 disscussion alive, at the end of the day we put the AWE B5 S4 Avant on the dyno. As you can see from the dyno chart below, it registered over 95 HP and 95 ft-lbs of torque more than the best B6 S4 of the day."

Could it be the Stratmosphere Hyperflow intake helping or is that definitely a mod that doesn't help?

Re: How's Milltek catback sound in b6 ?

I did DPs and resonated. It's plenty loud already - it would be too loud with non-res IMO. Then again, I need to keep it somewhat respectable for my job (consulting - occasionally drive clients around).
