i think i want one. stock recaro seats. aluminum engine. airbags everywhere. 291 bhp/300btq right out of the factory.

    tempting.

what do you guys think? its got active AWD right? the mitsubishi website says its "AWC" or all wheel control. I don't know if that's the same.

    Re: The New Lancer Evolution

I think its a cool car for sure. I really think they got the styling right on this one. I was never a fan of the evolution before, but this one appeals to me. I went down to the dealer here and got some information and sat in one, no test drive unfortunately that day though. the seats feel fabulously supportive, but the whole interior still feels really cheap to me. I didn't find myself wanting to be inside the car all that much.

The gains that the Vishnu guys are getting from the engine with just a tune are pretty damn impressive though so its a great car if you want speed, but then again, the evo has always been that way.

It is, however, up here in Canada, $50,000 so for that price i am sure as hell not interested, I can buy things i want a lot more than an evo for that kind of cash.

I saw a brand new one last week only it was poser with an Evolution badge on a new lancer. It had a big ugly wing and some decals too. If i had bigger balls i would have i would have made fun of him right inside taco bell. I hate posers.

They have really toned it down. Some people like the raw feeling and look of the older Evos. I guess Mitsubishi is trying to appeal to the older generations now. I still like it though.

The new Evo is crazy... I recently just saw one tested out at the track by Mitsubishi. The front end is so aggressive.

I test drove one last week and I liked it a lot. The engine felt much more lively at low RPMs than the 8 and 9, the interior was nicer, and I like the exterior too. I'd seriously consider it if I was buying a new car. I just drove it for shits though.

We'll see about the interior. if i like it, I smell a trade-in coming soon.

the front end definitely looks MEAN.

I can tell you about the interior right now, it's CHEAP, the plastics are thin and hollow.

Panel fitment is something Mitsubishi has yet to understand.

Intake and exhaust picked up over 75WHEELhp...that is without touching the tune.

Besides that fact that every JDM aftermarket tuner is already making products for it...this car and engine is going to be insane in the near future.

It seems that if you make a car fast enough people would even put up with a bare metal interior and still be glad to pay whatever you ask.

Best part, you can fit 11" wide wheels under the stock fenders!

Who told you that? No way 11's are fitting under there. 9.5's no problem, 10s are a stretch but maybe with the right offset and some negative camber/fender rolling.

Heres some 285s on a 10.5 inch wheel with just a rolling of the rear fenders (fits fine up front with no rolling.)

I saw a shop put 11's on the car with a slight stretch of the tires, I'll look for a pic.

    Car is hideous,old is sexy.
Got a few aquaintinces in the local street racing scene moved up from the IX to the new one. They said it handled a bit better, and was much torquier at normal cruising revs. I'd take it over the Audi in a heartbeat. :)

I'd buy an STI over this hideous thing any day.

yeah, yeah, people are gonna start spitting numbers about how the STI is slower, or doesn't handle as well - who cares, I wouldn't be tracking the car, the numbers are close enough.

Theres a HUGE diffrence in handling with the STI. That thing is sprung like an 1988 Accord. It's great for off-roading,but it handles like our Audi's with out the sport suspension. Night an day from the EVo,which rides stiffly and sticks like glue.

    Re: The New Lancer Evolution

I was 9/10ths of the way through a deal to buy one. I'd been researching and anxiously waiting for it for months.
I loved the idea of having an awd car that handles like a rwd..

I'd come from a fully modified WRX w a built sti motor in it.
But other than the even cheaper build quality of the EVO, I was really looking forward to owning one of these. So when I could throw down a deposit, I did. Only to find out that I could only get the 5spd in base GSR trim. No sight, sound, spoiler package for Canada. So I opted for the MR to get the high wing and better rims, and suspension. But then when I heard about all the delays due to a technical issue w the SST trans, I changed to the base GSR.
Well, the car finally showed up and I went to get it but the stealership tried to slide a 10.25% interest rate past me without saying anything! That, on top of $42k cdn for a base model w no options!! This would have worked out to $64k over five years for a $42k car that starts at $33k in the U.S....
Given that a loaded 08 sti was only $45k cdn and 5.9% at the time (0.9% now!), I pulled my deposit straight away. But despite my love for subies and my deep entrenchment in that community (I Moderate on a local forum and attend all the meets etc.), I couldn't get past the looks of the new sti.
So I pissed off to Audi and got an A3 s-Line w all the trimmings for less than the EVO. Ok, I lose the awd and the high performance for now, but next time, I'll go balls out on an S4 or RS4 and be done.
