thinking about pucking up a Q7

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As the topic states I am thinking about picking up a new/used Q7 for another vehicle. Is there a big difference between the 4.2 and the 3.6? besides towing (which I don't expect to do very often) what about the Nav plus? can that be retrofitted if I find a Q without factory navigation? I love the look of the factory system.

Re: thinking about pucking up a Q7

3.6 and 4.2 are different, and if you can go for the 4.2. Alot of people find the 3.6 to be "good enough" though.

I would suggest driving both and see what works the best for you.

Since my wife drove our Q7 mostly when we got it, the 3.6 was fine. I don't mind it, but would have bought the 4.2 if it would have been my primary car at the time.

Navi can be retro fitted. with parts and labor it would be about 2k.

I would go for the bigger engine, it feels better, sounds better and isn't so strained.

In our area you can find quite a few of the 4.2 Qs fully loaded used.

yeah. I am going to head to my local dealer and have them do a dealer search in the area and see what they find. I would love to find a 4.2 Prem with nav+. I know thats available but for less then 45K. Doesn't Audi Offer XM sat radio anymore? I see them all with sirus.

Re: thinking about pucking up a Q7

I have the 3.6 premium and tow a 19 foot crownline boat (3000 pounds when loaded with all my stuff) and it tows it with no problems. I like all the techie stuff in the Q like the blind spot indicator, the blue tooth, Nav, Heated seats with all the adjustments, folding side mirrors, sirius radio etc.

Maybe you won't have to now that XM and Sirius are merging.

Re: thinking about pucking up a Q7

Yeah, I keep hearing about that but I am not going to say its official until its a done deal. It could still far apart. Even with why merge you will still need to have the xm receiver to get xm programming until they come out with a receiver that accepts both streams

Re: thinking about pucking up a Q7

Yes and no. haha I have found a few Qs in my price range but while searching a came across a 04 Cayenne S. Which If I am not mistaken is almost the same car (doors and frame) and that is just about where the similarities stop. I'm not going to give up. i know they are a new model and I will eventually find one I like.

The cayenne is a little small and I like the Audi interior better. But I don't think you would be disappointed with the Cayenne either though.

Re: thinking about pucking up a Q7

yeah, I am just afraid of the Cayenne horror stories of not being reliable. Especially the 04 that I was looking at the other day. then again everyone told me Audi was unreliable and expensive to fix and total to date I think I have put maybe 1100 dollars in maintenance major maintenance in the 5 years I have owned the car. (i do a lot of PM though) Do you know the size differences interior wise and exterior wise between the Q and the Cayenne? I personally like the interior of them both. have yet to sit in a Q for along period of time and test drive one. Got to test drive the Porsche awhile back but I think for the best comparison I need to drive them both in the same day

Re: thinking about pucking up a Q7

I would test drive them the same day. I am not real sure on the specific size differences. We test drove the new X5 and it was just too small for my family and dog. The Q is quite long as I can tell whenever I drive it in the garage.

I assume you mean an older S6 if you are talking about used Q7's and an 04 Cayenne. A new S6 is a bit of a jump price wise.

both at near best. I like the cayenne's "curves" a little more. both sweet choices.

    That Cayenne is a "BEAST!"

Loving everything except the stickers and front license plate.

Perhaps one more inch drop and that would be the hottest centerfold since (insert favorite Maxim, Playboy, etc... model name)!!!!!

Dang! That Porsche should be in the Museum of Automotive Art!
