    Re: K&N filters

Are you talking about the drop in factory replacement filter? If so, you won't have any problems with a drop in K&N filter.

I've used them in all of my Audi's an not any problems as long as when you clean them YOU DO NOT OVER OIL THEM!

since it seems like a quarter of the people over oil them....thus causing their maf to go bad.

    Re: K&N filters

Be careful! Let it dry out for a day or 2 before placing it in the car. I inserted my K&N directly into my car (per oiled) and within 200 miles I had a CEL. Dealer replaced my MAF sensor under warranty but blamed it on the K&N...

    Re: K&N filters

after putting in the new bmc filter now i can hear more of the intake sucking sound. and in higher revs the car sounds mean. i really recommend it but i dont know about the k&n filter because i usually see civics with k&n filters. Ferrari's and other exotic cars use bmc air filters and i think my b7 s4 deserved a high quality filter.

    Re: K&N filters

a $97 air filter that i some how doubt does anything more than any other stock airbox air filter like K&N/ITG/ETC....not putting you down...props to you. but i doubt it does more than the next guy is my only statement and they are twice the cost.

and the only problem with K&N is the users....people oil it and then throw it right back on.
you should wait a day for the oil to turn waxy....then put it back on. then no problems.

Hey man that isn't true, that may be your perception. I placed a brand new K&N out of the wrapper (labeled "pre oiled") into my car and it killed the maf within hours. I didn't oil it as they come pre oiled. Yes some people have over oiled them after cleaning and caused problems, but there are people like myself that have had problems from time 0 with a K&N.

yeah i've seen them...but if its gooey out of the box....don't put it in yet. IIRC they are wrapped in plastic and i have seen them with oil residue all over the plastic which is a clue that the oil is still liquid and will get to the MAF.

Never had a K&N ruin any of my mass air meters. Dab the filter with some papertowels to remove any excess oil.

So I guess K&N is the way to go...just make sure it isn't too oily eh?

Does a K&N filter make much a difference to the sound?

I have a Milltek fullback exhaust - will the K&N make any noticeable change in the engine note?

If you find the DIY spark plug articles on AZ and AW you'll learn that in order easily change the spark plugs in the back passenger side, removal of the MAF tubes and I also believe the housing is included in the directions.

    Two DIY's in one!

I just learned that you can't get a K&N filter for a B6 S4...only availble for the B7 S4. Is this what you B6 owners are buying? The B7 model?

    PESAPC,

Did you let the filter sit a day or 2 to let the oil dry or was it pretty dry out of the package?

You know, I read all the alarming notes in this thread ... the plastic wrapper in which the Air Filter was packaged was already opened ... JAGS of SINGH AUTOSPORTS gave me the filter so he may have been looking at it ...

In terms of performance ... HOLY CRAP what am improvement in smooth power delivery ... listen up RS4 owners ... this is a very worthwhile and inexpensive 'mod' ... just note that getting to the filter is a pain in the ass.
