Replacing flasher/blinker relay, bezel off, now what??

Hey guys, thanks for taking a few minutes to read this. Let me just say I have searched not only the forums here but also the web looking for an answer before posting here but haven't found exactly what I was looking for, hopefully someone here can help.

    First off, 02/3.0L/Quattro/60k miles

I'm replacing the hazard/blinker relay that lives behind the Hazard Lights button in the center of the dash. My blinkers and hazards work fine and no bulbs are loose or blown. However, after I complete a turn and the blinker goes off, the relay clilcks rapidly for 5 to 10 seconds. My turn signal lights don't illuminate while it's doing this but it's annoying as hell.

After reading all the posts about turn signals and hazards, I decided a relay replacement would be the easiest and cheapest courose of action.
Now, as you can see in the pictures, I got the bezel off just fine using the two small flat head screwdrivers that come in that little red hard plastic case of 5 screwdrivers that you buy to work on comupters.

I can also pop the actual red hazard button cover off too. However, the actual hazard button with the three red LED's and it's case don't seem to budge.

I managed to get the bezel off with absolutely no breakage or damage and since I am not entirely sure what part comes off next, I didn't want to risk it. I don't know if I have to remove those two screws on the left and right sides of the console itself or if I just need to pop out the hazard button housing somehow.

Thanks again for taking a look, hopefully someone can guide me in the right direction.

The switch is supposed to pull out from that spot. Once it is far enough out of the opening, you should be able to disconnect the harness from it.

That means the next thing you have to change is the stalk, which means steering column has to come off

Wonderful. Time to go to the dealer? I'm in the DC region and don't have a mechanic I trust. Is removing the steering column a job that should only be done by the dealer?

Thanks for your help and suggestions
