thinking about spacing and lowering the car...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright so I was thinking about spacing my wheels like 5-8mm and lowering the car about 1.5" max.

    I looked at H&R for both... I have an 07 b7 s-line.

I have 19x8.5 +38(maybe 35 I can't remember) offset rims if that helps with which spacers to get.

If you can, go 8mm as a minimum so you can get spacers with a hubcentric ring. H&R springs will get you that drop...maybe more.

I like the idea you have but don't do the spacers. too much stress on the bearings, keep it stock. looks good that way.IMO

But do the coil overs and not just the lowering springs.

    so NO on the spacers?

is anyone having problems with those? dont they come with extrended lugs and whatnot so everything is cool?

H & R might give you more than a 1.5" drop.. if you want 1.5" max you might want to consider coilovers or Eibach springs. Eibach advertises that it drops approximately 1.2" but sometimes it drops a little more.

I have 8MM H&R spacers on my rear wheels and have no problems. I haven't heard any complaints from anybody else either. Yes, you need extended lugs. I got mine second hand so i'm not sure if htey are included.

Re: thinking about spacing and lowering the car...

how much extra stress is added on to the wheel bearings with spacers? replacing bearings is pretty damn expensive, especially when it involves more than one wheel...

anyone know how much the life of a bearing is reduced?

Re: thinking about spacing and lowering the car...

Running spacers is fine. Don't let people scare you about them. When you install hubcentric spacers with appropriately longer bolts...it is safe, there are no vibrations, and you aren't really putting much more stress on the wheel bearings.

Many times people bust out a Geometry lesson and attempt to prove how 'bad' it is for your bearings. The math may be true, but there is no way to prove if that correlates to a noticeable decrease in bearing life.

Many guys run spacers on OEM and aftermarket wheels and have been doing so for a long time without issue.

I'm thinking about doing the same. I was wondering about the wheel bearings too.

Re: thinking about spacing and lowering the car...

Running spacers will not add any significant amount of stress to your vehicle. You will not feel a difference when you drive, and no parts should wear prematurely. Don't worry about it at all.

and spacers usually do not come with extended lug bolts. I've seen companies put together packages on occasions, but not often. Make sure you buy good spacers, like H&R's

Re: thinking about spacing and lowering the car...

I see a bunch of people saying that wheel bearings might prematurely wear if you run spacers, but seriously... all they do is push your wheels out maybe 10mm.

In threads where people are asking about wheel sizes, do you see people saying "get a et40 offset, if you buy et30 your wheel bearings will be overly stressed!"? No, because having the wheels sit only a tiny bit further out is very minimal.

Anything 10mm and thicker bolts are included.

Re: thinking about spacing and lowering the car...

I've never seen that... Where are you finding H&R spacers that include extended lug bolts for anything 10mm and up?
