I purchased my car at 38k Miles in October of 06'
It ran perfect, changed the oil with "Royal Purple - Synthetic" at a local lube shop every 3-4k...I had made long trips sucessfully car was still fairly stock.
In July of 07' I moved back to Phoenix from Dallas. Its 16 hour drive, car had its oil changed two weeks ago *Supposedly* and it was running normal as ever.. checked the oil level before I left, everything was good... about 6 hours into the trip the oil light comes on in the middle of no where, I'm with my uncle and its like 'wtf'... So we decide to find a place to have the oil fully changed again, pay 70$, drive BACKWARDS about 30 miles to a small lube shop in the middle of no where. We get that done, continue foward.. and sure enough the light comes back on, we pull over. Car is idling/running normal, temperatures are normal.. the oil HAS BEEN CHANGED on time, and was JUST changed. Everything looks alright.. so we said 'eff it' we're not gonna strand ourselves out here, we continue foward... about 3 hours later in a nice town just outside 'El Paso' the engine just dies, fully cease's running. Out of the blue, perfect to nothing... no over heating, no nothing. Just dies... Luckily my uncle whipped it off the offramp and coasted to a gas station because we were in construction and had no where to pull over, and would have backed up about 20 semis. So... then we go back 50 miles in a cab with other people to El Paso, and rent a Mazda and happily make it on our way to Phoenix.
Now my car... Was at a Volkswagon dealer in El Paso, Audi has my dad pay 500$ to take it from there to Tucson Arizona, an Audi dealer down there. They look at it, decide it was due to "Oil Sludge" which I figured... but what I think is that lube shop was never changing my oil, because that doesn't happen. Luckily I had receipts all saved proving I changed my oil more than every 10k. Audi awarded me doing everything I could to prevent oil sludge and gave me a brand new engine.
I am now at 10k miles, on a brand new engine, turbo, tubes.. they used my old clutch, transmission, air conditioning. But overall its worth it.. now I practically have a new B6. But it was a hassle, it took them 2 months to complete the work and they made it very clear I wasn't on their priority list.
They even told me the car would be done on "Insert date here" about 5-6 times, and I made plans to drive two hours to Tucson.. then they'd call right before I'm about to leave. "Ummm sir, we aren't finished yet. You are missing "blah blah" we need to get that from Germany..." Its like holy shit, come on now... Just tell me when its done.
So yeah, very stressful, but they paid for it ALL and awarded my dad his 500$ back for moving the car. Worth it in the end...
