Got broken into on front driver side window

Bastards took my radar detector and it happened in front of my house!!!

Anyone know the price of the front right window so I don't get ripped off?

are you sure your insurance doesn't cover glass?

i had full glass coverage...window was replaced for free.

had to pay to re-tint though.

yeah ... believe it or not you can break the porcelain?? off of a sparkplug. when you throw it at a car window it shatters but makes no sound. they just grab the detector and bolt. Happened to me a few years back.

Doesn't the A4 come with motion detectors inside?

Is it just me or isn't the alarm to quiet to be an alarm? it just sounds like a truck is backing up with its beeping noise.

Lesson Learned: Hide your detector even in your own neighborhood... as long as people can't see it on your windshield they will be reluctant to break in.

And yes... that is why I never hardwired mine. You can still unplug it from the detector but it's just easier pressing a button to slide it off the clip and throwing it under your seat or compartment. I usually do... just never thought I had to in my neighborhood!!!!

Lastly... yes and no... the alarm system is an immobilizer I believe... not an alarm system. Trust me... that beep wouldn't alarm a soul.

anyone have any info on the window price before I call my dealer and go to a indep. body shop?

the window should be 87 bucks from the dealer. i know that sounds insanely low but i just had to replace my passenger side front window in december... i dont know about a piece of porcelin but the bastards that broke mine used a 20+ pound piece of granite....

the insurance company wanted to replace it through autolite and if autolite got the window it was listed to be 300 something. i told them i wanted it to match the other windows... down to the four rings and all that german crap i cant read on there.... they checked with the audi dealer and sure enough that window was 87.00.

Goodluck! and trust me, it could have been A LOT WORSE than just breaking the window and taking your gaydar detector....

if you put it by your mirror... most likely these gangster wouldn't notice it... they like to take everything from the wire to the clips that hold your radar detector up on the windshield... if they see it's all exposed and see that it can be quick... they will take it... if they have to think to get shit out... they won't bother.

Does anyone manufacture detectors with a remote mount? Whistler and Uniden used to make a detector that mounted behind the front bumper, and all you had in the interior was the display/speaker. Do these exist anymore?

Lesson learned - NEVER leave anything exposed in your car - not even bottled water or a penny in your ashtray!
