car hasnt been started in awhile

i've got a friend that has an AEB passat. it hasnt been started in about 6 months because he was in Iraq. What should i tell him to do other than changing the oil? should he drain his gas tank? he told him maybe take the valve cover off and prime all the cam lobes just to lessen friction. i'll probably be helping him do this so any pointers would be appreciated.

was it parked indoors with heat? I would start off with an oil change and then adding sta-bil or something in the fuel. then soon after its running probably the the plugs. and possibly might need a trickle charger for the battery.

car was parked outside in North Carolina. I dont think it got below 20 degrees this year. so..oil change, plugs, ignition control module maybe (if it went bad). no need in taking the valve cover off oiling everything manually?

i would change the oil, put some fresh gas in it, and charge the battery. You might also want to check all the wires for damage from mice and shit, same with the air box, small animals like to make nests in there sometimes. But fter you get it started just drive it around for a while, and if there is a vibration from the wheels than its most likely from sitting in one spot for so long.
