    H&R Race springs-sits kinda high?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright, So I was just sitting here bored so I went outside and took a pic and figured I would get your guys opinion. My car is on H&R Race springs, with stock sport struts. It seems to me like it sits kinda high, would my sport struts have something to do with that? I plan on getting grooved bilsteins in a couple months. So what you think? just seams like it sits to high for race springs...(car is dirty ect i know.. ignore that, ha)

disagree. h&r sports on bilsteins is about as low as you should reasonably go unless you want looks over performance. those springs on stock shocks is just not going to work well at all from a performance standpoint. that said, if you pick up the bilstein struts, i think you will have a great setup as long as your roads are smooth.

Re: H&R Race springs-sits kinda high?

I just put on H&R race springs a couple weeks ago. I thought they just hadn't "settled" yet but mine is about the same as yours. I am on Bilstein sport shocks too. On the rear I can fit 1.5 fingers in the gap and 2 fingers in front. The back definately sits lower than it did on the sport springs but front looks unchanged to me. Oh well it looks better just not as low as I woulda liked.

Just noticed you are in OC, NJ. My family has a house in Ventnor / Margate. We go down to OC for the boardwalk but not much else since it's a "dry" town. Maybe I'll see your car this summer while cruising around.

Re: H&R Race springs-sits kinda high?

That looks right for those springs. Struts have nothing to do with it; its the spring rate that sets heights of your vehicle and not struts which you could just compress by hand.

H&R are not not ultra low. They are just right low so your camber does not get dramatically affected to wear out tires. ~24.5" from fender to ground.

Yeah maybe, I am all around, from AC to North jersey in the summer, so you probably will. Keep an eye out.

They are 18's, with a 235/40/18 tire. I guess I just thought it would be lower..

Re: H&R Race springs-sits kinda high?

The perfect compromise between handling and performance is about a one finger gap. With no gap the camber and toe curves are out of their nominal ranges. There is also too little suspension travel to allow the suspension to work properly. I tracked my car at both heights (KW V1 Inox coilovers) and found the times to be the same but the lower setting was much more harsh on the roads. Wasn't very speed bump friendly either.

Re: H&R Race springs-sits kinda high?

    semi related question:

would H&R race springs be slightly more forgiving with koni struts than they would be on grooved bilsteins?

Re: H&R Race springs-sits kinda high?

Absolutely. Konis are twin tube low pressure while Bilsteins are high pressure monotubes that act like a supplemental spring which is why they are harsh.
