CV Boot replacement

I'm starting to get sick of this car realllll quick. Just took off my winter wheels to reveal a leaky/messy outer CV boot on the driver side front axle... I'm trying to drive as little as possible at this point (100miles/wk is the absolute minimum since I don't have a spare car)... how long can I safely drive on this? I just had coilovers installed about a month ago and it wasn't leaking yet so this is still pretty recent (500miles at most?)

The audiworld DIY says about 2hrs... I was just going to replace the CV boots on both sides because I need to replace the seized pinch bolts anyway when I replace one of the upper control arms on the passenger side.

Any suggestions? Cheapest place to buy? etc etc


Anyone have the VW/AUDI and autopartswarehouse part #'s for the pinch bolts and nuts? Greatly appreciated!

My boot was torn when I bought the car. I drove on it for 10 months (20k) before I heard any clicking from the joint. But get it fixed ASAP, because now instead of just replacing the boot (which I did last weekend in hopes it would salvage the joint), I had to buy a new joint as well which I'll be replacing this weekend. The boots are like 10 bucks from MJMautohaus I think.

I ended up driving on a torn front boot for about 3 months, and since i fixed it last year there hasn't been any trouble... HOWEVER, its only a $20 fix and it only takes a day to do at the most, so I'd do it as soon as you have a free weekend. Just make sure you buy/rent a good set of the crimp pliers, or just use good hose clamps. I broke 2 of the autozone cv boot pliers, and i ended up using a hammer and screwdriver to finish it off...

Yeah I let mine go for SOOOO long..

Ended up with a broken axle..

Which I need to get pics from my buddy who changed it.

I severed the part that attaches to the hub? and the part that bolts to the diff. Plastic axles are going to be fun with a BT..

If you let it go too long the axle is gonna need to be replaced. My old car, granted not an Audi, had a torn CV boot for about 2 years, nothing bad happened, it was just really annoying. And if you're wondering why I never replaced it, because my Dad bought the car brand new......in 1988 and the car wasn't worth the price of a new axle, so I said F it.
