    Springs or Coils?

I was pretty much sold on getting some KW Variant 3's, but now I'm getting cold feet about ending up with a really harsh ride.

My friend went from some FK's on his GTI to Eibach springs, and while it's still decently low and looks better than stock, it rides MUCH better than the FK's did.

Has anyone gone through a similar experience with their S4?

i was in the same dilemma as you, but i ended up just getting springs, i think the drop is perfect for me and the ride is also great. I got the vogtland springs.

    Re: Springs or Coils?

I was going to get springs, but found a set of used Stasis Tracksports for a good price. The ride is great on smooth roads, but on bad roads they are harsh. I will probably never adjust them and might as well have gotten springs.

Try to get a ride with both suspensions.

Any quality coilover is going to ride better than stock. My pss9's rode better.

    Re: Springs or Coils?

Agreed. Springs are a band-aid, coilovers are a solution.

Look at the StASIS stuff also.. I have been starting to lean towards them lately, and their employees are all active on AudiWorld and can provide good information for you from what I gather.

    Re: Springs or Coils?

ive been dealing with the dilemma my self, springs are definitely a bandaid for the problem, coils are the solution, however some people dont really want to goo too low, so springs are the solution.

Im on the tein s-tech springs, and the drop is good for stock et wheels, however for my 19's it just isnt low enough and i will be upgrading to a set of coils within the next month.

Coilovers are much better to control ride height. With springs you get what you get. With coilovers you can make the tilt of the car as well as the height whatever you like. Also, the highest setting on coilovers would be higher then what most springs will give you.

Yep, and let's not forget the ride quality will be (in most cases) better than OEM, and more compliant. If you do springs without replacing your shocks/struts, it's a different story altogether.

    Re: Springs or Coils?

    I'm in the same boat...

I've been debating springs vs coils for a while now. I'd love to go w/ Ohlins SL's, but I just can't justify $2500 to drop the car an inch. I'm thinking about going with the Stratmosphere spring set.

    Re: Springs or Coils?

I installed Koni sport w/ H&R sport springs with Hotchkes sways today. The ride feels like I'm running on the springs, hard and noisey. tried adjusting shocks from max stiff to medium with very little change in ride. Also ride height varies per corner and the rear didn't drop at all.
any ideas other then CO's, I read this set up was matched well and handled/road well.
