break peddle very hard to push

Ok, I am learning to work on my Audi it is a 1990 100. It really belongs to my daughter and has sat in the drive way since Oct 2007. It starts right up great and drives great. But getting it stopped is a whole other issue. The breaks were doing just fine before she quit driving it. Also while having sat the power steering pump pully has started to wiggle ever so slightly, (it makes a noise that I thought at first was a water pump going out) and so it is almost as though you don't have power steering. Does anyone out there have any ideas?

I have the problem with the PEDAL worked out. It is the power steering pump. Now I need to either tighten it up or replace it. Does anyone out there know where to pick up used parts. I just really want to get his car ready to sell.

    force 5 auto: http://www.force5auto.com/
    OR
    Car part.com: http://car-part.com/

I'd personally give Chris at force 5 a call. He'll sell you a good part for a good price. I've always been very happy with force 5!

the brakes on those older cars are hooked to the "bomb" which provides pressure and is connected to power steering.

i found some used on vortex or www.motorgeek.com when i was replacing mine...

i went through 3 PS pumps trying to convert to vaccuum assist braking.... :(

Re: break peddle very hard to push

the pump is indeed your problem... put a request on the following:
    www.justfourrings.com
    www.audifans.com
    www.motorgeek.com
    www.audiworld.com

in their WTB/For sale/Classified/market place sections... you'll more than likely get a hit (if you're on the cheap that is)

new/rebuilt is not cheap. anywhere from 250 up to 700!!! There is a list of vendors on many forums here's my "listing thread" to get you started.
    thanks, Zep
