    Re: engine build with pictures

Go to gallery, upload pics, browse, then click on your pic, then process. This will load them onto the audizine server. Might help if the server you are using doesn't want to display them here. Make sure they are jpeg so they are small enough.

Go to see we are both there man. My fingers are crossed for both of us when we first turn it over. I could fire mine up right now, but apr sent me the wrong DP. Oh well it still ain't going anywhere with how these damn CO roads are right now anyway...

    Good luck

first pic, the alternator is right in the bottom middle to the left of the orange oil dip stick tube, the intake runners going into the head are right next to it. second pic is looking at the cams, cam chain, top of the head with the valve cover gasket on, etc... 3rd pic is looking at one of the exhaust openings going into the exhaust valve at the head.

20V, I forgot but did you end up using a different head? If so what code is it?
Did you make sure all your timing marks lined up perfect? Since those cams don't have any timing marks and they just give actual timing figures you need to make sure those were installed perfect, but I'm sure you already know that ;)

I also see you used an external oil cooler, I presume. What brand and dimensions did you go with? Was I looking at the stock one right when I saw that both oil and coolant run through the same housing? I also replied above you at the same time you posted the first link for pics...

yes they are punched it's not exact..the guy that put the head together told me he used the punches in the cams and then he counted the links on the chain...U have to use a special tool to get the chain with the tensioner in...The marks between the 2 cams right now but there is no oil in the tensioner so it's normal to be a bit off I am calling autotech now i want to get this

    Re: engine build with pictures

it's the original small port head but it has been ported, inconel exaust valves stainless intake ferrea all over and revolver cams....if you look at the ports u won't see much the real job is where the valves are, there are a lot of imperfections on that area in the casting...I wasn't looking to make the ports as big as possible I wanted equal flow between each cylinder and match port

    Re: engine build with pictures

yeah I ported my stock one too. More the intake than the exhaust side right at the openings, not much but definitely cleaner and better flowing. But yeah did more work inside by the valves as well. Did you have to overbore +1mm for the ferrea intake valves?

    Re: engine build with pictures

once you have the timing set do not crank the motor turn it by hand a couple of times If the timing is off by any chance the force of the starter will mess the valves...when you are ready to start disconect injectors and ignition and crank until the oil light goes off, i do this after every oil change, it will push oil everywhere including the turbo

It's usually not marked with paint or anything similar. Look for a notch in it instead. Kind of like someone taking a little knife scratch/cut to it...

So, you built up a 1.8 with solid internals? Didn't stroke it to go 2.0?

Sounds like it'll be a solid motor. I presume you'll end up with a big turbo?

    Re: engine build with pictures

i did more than building a solid motor I optimised everything for high and swift revs I kept it 1.8 t because I wanted mahle pistons and because the 1.8 likes the high revs more than a 2.0...everything is lighten in the block and balanced for 10000rpms...the valvetrain is also optimised for about 9000rpms....beside block and head there is nothing oem in the engine..this was done to compensate for the lag of a bigger turbo

    Re: engine build with pictures

What compression ratio are you going to run? I got my JE pistons cut at 9:0:1.
For some reason I thought you were going 2.0 stroker as well. A 1.8 will rev quicker, but the 2.0 bore/stroke will spool quicker. I guess both have their advantages and disadvantages... What exactly did you lighten in the block?

9.5:1 the crank is eurospec lightweigth knife edged forged crank...mahle pistons I kept the 1.8t because I wanted the quality of the mahle....I heard je are noisy and sometimes the knocks trick the knock sensors..I also have carrillo rods wich were already made in 144mm so i wanted to use those...Going 2 liter would mean diff pistons and rods...The rods I had already and the pistons I got from 034...it was 2 much of a hassle for 200cc Now a 2.2 would be interesting but I had not time and no money to play with that
