    Re: HID Color

4300 give the most light output.. This is what many cars come with OEM. 6000k still looks factory... this is the Icy white look. I personally love 6000K. The higher up you go in kelvin temps the less light ouput you get but 4300K to 6000K will not hurt your light output much. Dont get 8000k.. thats blue and ricey. I don't have to tell you about the higher ones.. purple, and especially pink which i think is gaaayyyyy.

I take it back.. it doesn't look ricey, just makes it look like it didn't come with the car. Anything above this is RICE!

Yeah it definately doesnt look like its stock. Has a touch of blue to it but thats what i like.

Also depends on what HID kit you have. Different companies have different ratings. I have a 6K kit on my celica and its just as blue as my 8K on my A4.

My friend's GTI has 6000K's in it and I can tell that mine has more light output with the stock 4300K's. 6000K's are so Lexus/Acura.

Actually, all OEMs use 4300K bulbs (the color temp. of sunlight), and the apparent color difference you see from car to car is because of the design of the projector.

Correct, the projector lens will refract the light. If you point the beam at a wall or garage door, you will see solid color below and as you approach the cut-off point (line) you will notice a tiny spectrum of colors barely noticeable. The further away you get the larger the spectrum becomes. Therefore when an oncoming car is really far away, it may appear is the lights are purple. As it approaches you will see all types of colors. Purple, blue, white. This happens even on non-HID regular halogen headlights with projector lenses.

I hope that makes sense to everyone.

EDIT: I found a great image that shows exactly what I'm talking about. Notice the spectrum. It may be more noticeable in other cars with different setups. My motorcycle's projector flickers between all types of colors when I come from distance, sometimes even greeen!

^ Indeed, I love seeing motorcycles with projectors/HID's at night as their lights always stand out.

    Re: HID Color

The original poster did not mention if he has the bi-xenon setup or if he is installing aftermarket HID's into halogen/reflector housings. But yea, you can achieve different color/temps by changing the bulb.

To answer your question, if you want a clean install you should retrofit your car with OEM bi-xenons. If you don't care you can install an aftermarket HID system in the refector housing. Howerver, this is not advisable as the light will spread out everywhere. You can sort of aim them downward, but there still is a considerable amount of glare that will blind people. You will have the high intensity lighting of the kit while making it look like you have the high beams on at the same time. People will hate you for it lol.

As I mentioned above, to achieve a different color temp you change the bulb. So it doesn't matter what the original poster has or will have. You can change the bulb on the OEM bi-xenon to a 6000k so its more white. You can also do this with an aftermarket kit.

I actually liked my Hid's on my old car better in the reflective housing instead of the projector.

This time I have the stock Bi Xenons and I wish I had my old reflectors back!

    Re: HID Color

Its very nice to see people that actually know what they are talking about. I hate when people put high color temp bulbs in there lights because it takes away from the output of HIDs not to mention it makes your lights look horrible. 4300k is the best hands down. There is a reason that all manufacturers put this in cars from the factory.
